Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) & Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) Activities for Cubs Radio Code Fun (Phonetic Alphabet Game) • •

Goal: Introduce voice communication protocols used in amateur radio. Activity: Teach the NATO phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie…). Let them spell out their names using it or play a relay game where teams race to decode or encode words. Additional Phonetic Alphabet Activities can be found here.

Make Your Own Radio • •

Goal: Teach basic radio principles in a tactile way. Activity: Build a simple crystal radio (with adult supervision) or make “string and cup” phones to explore how sound travels. Guide and materials list for crystal radio are available here. Guide for ‘string and cup’ phone is available here.

Ham Radio Operator Presentation • •

Goal: A core JOTA experience! Practice clear speaking and global citizenship. Activity: Arrange a session with a licensed amateur radio operator. Let the Cubs listen in and, if licensing allows, speak to other Scouts globally.

Noughts and Crosses Radio Game • •

Goal: Use walkie talkies or hand radios to play a game of noughts and crosses. Activity instructions here.

Hangman Communication Game • •

Goal: Use walkie talkies or hand radios to play a game of Hangman Activity instructions here.

LEGO Communication Game • •

Goal: Work together to give and follow instructions to create a LEGO construction Activity instructions here.
