This annual three-day fundraising event brings top tier visual, performing, and culinary artists to Old Town Scottsdale, and is an entertaining tradition that has withstood the test of time. Widely acknowledged as one of the country’s premiere art fairs, Scottsdale Arts Festival is presented by Scottsdale Arts and its branches: Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale Public Art, and Scottsdale Arts Education & Outreach. Proceeds from this Festival support the diverse arts and education programs that Scottsdale
Arts offers throughout the year. The Festival is a success because of the tireless support and hard work of our employees, the generosity of our sponsors and members, and the dedication of hundreds of volunteers. VIOLINS OF HOPE AT YOUNG@ART GALLERY
The Violins of Hope is a collection of restored instruments played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. These instruments have survived concentration camps, pogroms, and many long journeys to tell remarkable stories of injustice, suffering, resilience, and survival. The Violins of Hope exhibition is coming to Scottsdale Arts to facilitate a citywide dialogue about music, art, social justice, and free expression.

MCDOWELL SMITH
M
ichelle McDowell Smith is a Jacksonville, FL native, now living just south of the city in St. Johns, FL. In the spring of 1997, she graduated summa cum laude from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a major in illustration and minor in art history. Her schooling instilled in her the importance of using symbols and metaphors in her work to create emotion, depth, and meaning. She also became skilled in the use of a wide variety of materials and mixed-media techniques. Smith strives to create pieces that have a familiar narrative yet still convey a fresh look and allow for the unexpected. She uses acrylic paint, mixed-media materials such as paper, handmade linoleum stamps, sewing patterns, maps, old letters, pages from books, and more. Her current body of work is titled Of Land and Sky, Whimsical and Free. The work’s focus is centered in longstanding memories, fleeting ideas, and hope for the future.

POP-UP SHOPS Shop the award-winning Store @ the Center, plus our two pop-up shops on the West and East ends of the Festival grounds. There, you can pick up Festival swag, including reusable Festival water bottles to use at the water trailer, provided by the City of Scottsdale.

Be sure to vote for our People’s Choice Award for your favorite artist. Ballots available at all artist booths or any entry gate. Drop your completed ballot in the box located in the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts atrium. Voting ends at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 10th and the winner will be announced by 5 p.m.
FREE SCOTTSDALE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART (SMoCA) ADMISSION SMoCA will be open during Festival hours. Patrons can visit the Museum for free Friday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. To launch a year-long 20th anniversary celebration, SMoCA presents Now Playing: Video 1999–2019, an exhibition that samples the last 20 years of video art. As a former movie theater, the Museum embraces the chance to turn its entire exhibition space over to the moving image. Exploring the complexities of contemporary art and life, the works transform the Museum into a space that enables the viewer to get lost in time. The exhibition features the immersive sound and video installation of Shirin Neshat’s Turbulent (1998) and the large-scale, multi-channel video Love Story (2016) by Candice Breitz that juxtaposes individual experiences of the worldwide refugee crisis with the power of celebrity appeal. Additional artists include: Mark Bradford, Petra Cortright, Song Dong, Kota Ezawa, Mads Lynnerup, Christian Marclay, Paul Pfeiffer, Aaron Rothman, Mika Rottenberg, and Diana Thater.
SOCIAL MEDIA CONTEST New this year at Scottsdale Arts Festival is a fun scavenger hunt for festivalgoers! Explore and snap your best pics across the festival grounds all weekend long. ONLINE ART AUCTION The Scottsdale Arts Festival’s online auction features original works of art in all media, generously donated by Festival artists, with something for every taste and budget. Local artist LaLo Cota will be doing a live street art mural at the Milagro Pop-Up Art Bar from Noon – 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and Cota’s artwork will also be included in this year’s online auction. Auction items are displayed inside Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts during Festival weekend. The auction has a rolling opening beginning on Friday, March 8 at 5 p.m. and ending Monday, March 11 at noon. Pre-register, view and bid on auction items at ScottsdaleArtsFestival.org. Auction proceeds support the dynamic and diverse performances, exhibitions, installations, and arts education and outreach programs presented by Scottsdale Arts.

COMMUNITY ART STUDIO
Curious about art? Explore a variety of art mediums at the Community Art Studio. From murals to music-making, we’re sure you’ll leave inspired. All ages welcome, all materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary. We are proud to partner with the following quality organizations and artists: Patti Hannon, Arizona Musicfest, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, Free Arts of Arizona, Phoenix College, Rachel’s Young at Art Studio, and Scottsdale Artists’ School.
Marble Mountain Escape to Marble Mountain and participate in fiber workshops and art activities surrounding storytelling and character-building. Participants will learn how to marble dye fabric and make their own take-home creature. All ages welcome, all materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary.Marble Mountain also offers storytelling at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
