October 1 – January 8 This cross-disciplinary exhibition examines how art can be used as a catalyst for the transformation of women’s place and role in society. The work of 15 women artists inspired by the experience of five Arizona women who have held positions of great power explores this pivotal issue.

Architecture + Art: Everything Falls Into Place When It Collapses October 15 – January 22 Mexico City-based artist Santiago Borja works internationally at the intersection of art, architecture and ethnography. He is known for creating large-scale installations that cross cultural boundaries and contrast traditional crafts with contemporary theory and Modernist design. His exhibition responds to two historical icons of the Southwest: the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument and the desert architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Los Trompos Esrawe + Cadena November – March Downtown Scottsdale Scottsdale Public Art presents Los Trompos, a series of colorful, interactive “spinning-top” installations by leading Mexican designers and artists Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena. SMoCA’s Art Start program helps children in preschool and kindergarten (ages 4 to 5) discover the wonderful world of art. During visits to the Museum, children enjoy a participatory tour designed to inspire confidence and self-expression and to promote language development. An accompanying hands-on art project helps strengthen physical and perceptual skills.
