PUBLIC AFFAIRS
We work hard to represent the interests of the trade to Government and other important public policy stakeholders. This ensures the scale of our industry is understood, so we can influence policy where possible for the good of all in our trade. We also work with other food and drink organisations and trade associations to amplify our voice on common issues and challenges. We've been active recently on issues as diverse as allergen labelling and the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), while during the Coronavirus Pandemic we have been in regular dialogue with Government.

INDUSTRY STANDARD APPRENTICESHIPS
We deliver a range of member offers including unlimited FREE access to fully indemnified professional employment law advice, FREE food safety e-mail support, discounted AA breakdown cover and more.
We are Scotland’s largest provider of apprenticeship training to the bakery and food and drink manufacturing sector in Scotland. Our fully funded, quality-assured training helps develop the skills of your workforce to build quality, reduce wastage and improve productivity.
For example, our association with a leading R & D tax credits advisory firm has helped several members recoup thousands of pounds from NPD investment. Several of our Allied Trades members also feature offers available only to Scottish Bakers members too, bringing savings or added value to hard-pressed businesses.

EVENTS & COMPETITIONS The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards and the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards are our two showcase competitions. The Scottish Baker of the Year competition judges Scotland’s best bakery products across a range of categories. The competition is free to enter for members who can submit up to ten products across the categories for judging. Product judging takes place in Spring each year with over 800 items tasted and examined by a team of around 60 expert and impartial judges. Awards are given at our amazing two-day Annual Conference and Scottish Baker of the Year awards ceremony. The conference is where our bakery and allied trades come together as one big family each year to meet old friends, make new ones and celebrate the continued success of the Scottish Baking industry. The Scotch Pie awards are judged in November each year with an awards lunch in January hosted by Carol Smillie and it allows us to showcase the diverse range of high quality savoury snacks our members produce to keep our nation fed. The competition always secures a high level of press interest and winners see a clear jump in sales if they win or are ranked runners up.
