EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

• All students take an advanced college preparatory curriculum

The Experiential Learning program supports students with opportunities and structure for personal self-exploration. Students will choose how they would like to grow, make discoveries about themselves, and further develop their unique strengths. Real-world experiences may include job shadows, internships, college coursework, concentrations within specific disciplines, and other significant activities. All students complete a Challenge Experience, engage in community service, and participate in May Term Intensives.

• Financial Aid awarded to 25% of students • Students come from 61 ZIP codes • Student body includes 42% students of color • Study Abroad — Exchange/home-stay experiences in China, France, Spain, Greece, and Italy • Athletics — 75% of students play a team sport

ACADEMIC RIGOR • Admission to Honors, AP, and Advanced Topics courses is selective and depends on past performance and departmental approval. Students must also be approved to take more than four honors/AP/ Advanced Topics courses in one year. • No APs are available in ninth grade. Only one AP course is available in 10th grade. • All AP students are expected to take the AP exam. • Advanced Topics courses meet or exceed the rigor of AP courses.

• Challenge Experience: Self-designed experience defended before a faculty committee and presented to the school community in one of four pathways: Service Learning/Philanthropy, Concentration, Independent Project, or Civic Engagement. • Community Service: Volunteer service to community paired with reflection. • May Term Intensives: One-week experiential education courses for ninth, 10th, and 11th grades on topics such as architecture, medicine, animal behavior, design, and law.
