Bernd Franke
Bernd Franke was born in 1959 in Weissenfels/Saale, Germany, and grew up in an open, tolerant, and, with regard to music, an undogmatic family home. Characteristic of his work since the 1980s is the crossing of borders – both musically and by incorporating socially relevant themes. His international outlook and experiences with a variety of cultures are also reflected in the fact that a number of his works have been premiered in Asia, including in Tokyo, India and Taiwan.
Franke has collaborated with and been commissioned by, amongst others, Riccardo Chailly, Kurt Masur, Paul Hillier, Lukas Foss, Michael Sanderling, and orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, King’s Singers, Amarcord and the National Chinese Orchestra.
Bernd Franke, 1959 in Weißenfels/Saale geboren, wuchs in einem offenen, toleranten und musikalisch undogmatischen Elternhaus auf. Charakteristisch für sein Œuvre ist seit den 1980er Jahren das Überschreiten von Grenzen, sowohl musikalisch als auch durch die Einbeziehung gesellschaftlich relevanter Themen. Seine internationale Ausrichtung und seine Erfahrungen mit verschiedenen Kulturen spiegeln sich auch darin wider, dass einige seiner Werke in Asien uraufgeführt wurden, darunter in Tokio, Indien und Taiwan.
Zu den Kooperationen und Auftraggebern gehören Riccardo Chailly, Kurt Masur, Paul Hillier, Lukas Foss, Michael Sanderling und Orchester wie das Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, King’s Singers, Amarcord und das National Chinese Orchestra.
