ABOUT The Emigrant Song is a traditional Swedish folk tune, which is deeply tied to the historic emigration from Sweden to North America during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Between 1850 and 1930, around 1.3 million Swedes left their homeland—about one-fifth of Sweden’s population at the time. Many settled in the United States, especially in Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and other Midwestern states, where they found work in farming, lumber, and industry.
The choir piece was originally written as a part of Nordic Suite, published in 1994. Consisting of four Nordic movements arranged by Bo Holten in the years 1971-1989.
Emigrantvisa er en svensk folkemelodi, som handler om den store udvandring fra Sverige til Nordamerika. Fra ca. 1850 og 1930, forlod omkring 1,3 millioner svenskere deres hjemland omkring en femtedel af Sveriges befolkning på det tidspunkt. De fleste bosatte sig i USA, især i Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin og andre midtvestlige stater, hvor de fandt arbejde inden for landbrug, tømmer og industri. Korsatsen er oprindeligt skrevet som en del af Nordisk Suite, udgivet i 1994. Bestående af fire nordiske satser arrangeret af Bo Holten i årene 1971-1989.
