he 2017 season has seen an increase in the quantity and quality of play in GHSA lacrosse. These championship matches bring together teams that have demonstrated excellence throughout the regular season and the playoffs. The hard work put in by players and coaches has paid off as they compete for the title of “State Champion” this weekend. For the first time in GHSA history, all lacrosse championships will be played at the same venue – Lakewood Stadium. We are very excited to have the opportunity for these lacrosse teams to be able to compete in such a fine facility. The GHSA thanks the Atlanta Public Schools and Athletic Director Jasper Jewell for their support in the presentation of these events. Your support of these athletes in various ways this season has been an important part of the success of these teams and the growth of this sport. The GHSA

he 2017 lacrosse season concludes Saturday, May 20 at Lakewood Stadium with the Class 6A-7A championship double-header. In the boys final, defending state champion Lambert has a chance to become the first boys program in the state to claim four all-time titles. The Longhorns made history last year by capping off a perfect 21-0 season with a 6-3 victory over the Trojans in the championship. This marked the second time the program had achieved perfection after producing a 22-0 record in 2012. Lambert’s only loss this season came on March 11 in a 12-6 defeat to Calvert Hall, MD. The Longhorns have gone 19-0 against in-state opponents, while allowing just 4.1 goals per game. Offensively, Lambert enters the finals with 16.8 goals scored per game and has scored double-digit goals in every in-state matchup since last year’s 6-3 win over Lassiter. As wide
as Lambert’s average margin of victory has been this season, Lassiter boasts a defense that is capable of keeping the Trojans within striking distance. The Trojans have surrendered just 5.7 goals per game this year and the defensive success came against one of the toughest schedules in the state. Both schools have survived intense playoff battles as Lambert took out Pope and Centennial the past two rounds, while Lassiter survived a 9-8 win over Mill Creek in the second round and an 11-9 semifinal over Allatoona.
DYNASTY ON DISPLAY… In the girls matchup, Milton has returned to the championship stage after seeing its streak of six consecutive state championships snapped by rival Walton. Milton has won 10 state titles in the 12 years that the GHSA has sanctioned lacrosse. It marked the first time

Milton had lost to an in-state opponent since a 2009 finals loss to Chattahoochee. This year’s Eagles have compiled a 12-0 record against Georgia schools and have cruised in the playoffs with a 14-goal average margin of victory. The closest a Georgia school came to Milton this season, however, was Cambridge. The Bears tested Milton in a thrilling 10-8 matchup on April 28 in the two schools’ regular season finale just three weeks ago. Cambridge is only in its fifth season of lacrosse, but the Bears’ program has finished each of the previous four seasons knocking on the door of a title and is tested when it comes to close games. After a 12-11 loss to cap off the program’s first-ever season in 2013, Cambridge fell 17-15 in overtime to Westminster in 2014. Kell ended a 19-2 season in 2015 with a narrow 15-13 victory and then ended Cambridge’s season a year ago in a 13-12 overtime win. Cambridge has been able to win the close game this postseason and the last two rounds prove the Bears’ ability to finish. Cambridge held off Lambert 9-8 in the semifinals and eliminated defending champion Walton in the quarterfinals with an 11-10 overtime victory.
