The Rosary is divided into 4 main mysteries. Each main mystery is divided into 5 decades of important events from Jesus life. Each decade contains 10 beads, all together 20 decades and 200 beads describe the biblical events.

Why We Pray The Holy Rosary?

The Rosary According to Catholic tradition, the Rosary was instituted by the Blessed Virgin Mary herself. During the 13th century, she appeared to St. Dominic, gave him a rosary, and asked that Christians pray the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be prayers instead of the Psalms. What is the Purpose of The Rosary Prayer? The purpose of the Rosary is to bring us ever closer to Jesus through contemplation and re ection on Biblical events, the mysteries of life, and the teachings of Jesus. Through Christ our Lord, we may relate to what they contain and obtain what they promise. Is the Rosary Biblical? The Bible does "not" tell us to pray the Rosary because this form of prayer originated only during the 13th century. However, all elements of the Rosary are Biblical as each mystery represents different scriptural event of Jesus’ life. When we contemplate these events, we let the words of the prayers oat by. They serve as a backdrop to the decades of the Rosary as we focus on God. Building focus on God allows us to create a deeper relationship with Him. With time and God’s grace, we develop a meditative state in which our hearts lead the prayer. Each scene of the mystery brings us closer to Him. Therefore, The Rosary is not a repetitive recital as falsely understood by some. Rather, it is a powerful tool in which to fall in love with God.

The reasons why we pray to Holy Mother:

Intercession and Protection We trust that Christ will not turn away from His mother when she looks upon him with love and pleads for mercy on our behalf. The Holy Mother also protects us from harm. The devil and his demons tremble before her. He could not tempt her into sin. He knows what a powerful intercessor she is, calling us to conversion and return to the Lord. The Holy Mother plays an important role in salvation history. Mary shares so fully in the glory of Christ because she shared so fully in His suffering Sorrowful Mother. She gave birth to the Savior of the world. Because she was so closely united with Jesus in His life and death, she was also given the privilege of sharing in Christ’s triumph over Satan. She becomes an example to all Christians. At the cross, When Jesus saw His mother with the disciples whom he loved standing nearby, He said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” (John 19:26-27) Therefore, Mary is our Mother because Jesus gave her to us. Mary is called the Mother of the Church because she is the Mother of Christ, and the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. At the Wedding at Cana, Mary noticed that the wine had run out and mentioned this to Jesus, “They have no wine.” (John 2:3) Jesus responds by saying, “My hour has not yet come”.

Mary turns to the waiters and tells them, “Do whatever He tells you”. Jesus instructs the servants, “Fill the jars with water”. Then He turns water into wine. The fact that Mary becomes concerned, when at the wedding ceremony the wine runs out, implies that she is concerned about our everyday human struggles. The wedding at Cana teaches us how Holy Mary intercedes and reconciles for us in front of Jesus when we ask Her for help in our prayers. The Holy Scripture “Honor your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that I am going to show you.” (Ex. 20:12) As we have been commanded to honor to our biological mother, then, we must give to Holy Mary much greater honor because she is the Mother of Jesus our God. Jesus, Himself, had already honored her even before the foundation of the world. Thus, whenever the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is the rst member of the Church and the rst disciple of Jesus Christ, the Church is merely following the example of God Himself. Holy Mary assists us in danger, in doubt, and in dif culties. O Mary, Mother of Love, of Sorrows and of Mercy, we beg You, join Your prayers with ours so that Jesus, your Divine Son, to Whom we turn, may hear our petitions in the name of Your maternal tears and together with the graces we implore, grant us nally the rewards of eternal life. Amen

The Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the

Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The Apostles' Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was cruci ed, died and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, seated the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen The Our Father: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name: Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Angel Gabriel tells Mary, ”Fear not, … you shall conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name Him Jesus, He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High”. Lk. 1:31 …”he will save his people from their sins”Ma , 1 :21 all this took place to ful ll what the Lord had said through the prophet Ma 1 :22 Mary is troubled and asked the angel: “How will this be, since I am a virgin? The angel answered, “the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the child to be born will be holy, and will be called the Son of God. . Lk. 1:34

The First Joyful Mystery

The Annunciation, Spiritual Fruit — Humility Say: Hail Mary’s while meditating on the Mystery. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Say ten: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Mary gives Her Fiat: “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Lk. 1:38

The Word was made esh and dwelt among us. God the Son becomes Man. Lk. 1:38

The Immense and High One lowered Himself into the abyss of the womb of a Virgin.

Mary becomes Mother of God. Lk. 1:38

Nothing is impossible for God.

Mary visits her elderly cousin Elizabeth a er the angel tells her that she is with child. Lk. 1:40 Charity prompts Mary to hasten to visit Elizabeth in the hour of need.

”The journey to Elizabeth’s home is about eighty miles (153 Kilometers) Though long and arduous, the journey is joyous, for Mary bears with her the Incarnate Word. Mary herself is with Child, through the Holy Spirit. Mt. 1:18

As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s gree ng, the child leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was lled with Holy Spirit. Lk 1: 41

Elizabeth, gave a loud cry and said; “Blessed are you among woman, and Blessed is the Fruit of your Womb” Lk 1: 42

“Yes, Blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be ful lled “ Lk. 1:45

The Second Joyful Mystery

The Visitation “Spiritual fruit -Charity” Say: Hail Mary’s while meditating on the Mystery. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Say ten: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Elizabeth said: “How have I deserved that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” Lk 1:43

And Mary said; My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my Savior; From this day forward all genera on will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me.

Elizabeth gave the birth to son. His name is John. Lk. 1:57

Mary, the Mother of God, stays to help Elizabeth. Lk. 1:56

A er three months Mary returns to her home in Nazareth. Lk. 1:56

Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem to comply with the decree of Cesar Augustus. Joseph and Mary leave Nazareth to register in Bethlehem. Lk. 2:4

The hour for Mary to give birth is near, but there is no room in the inn. In Bethlehem will be born He Who is to rule my people. Micah 5:2

In the s llness of the night, the Savior is born in a cave. Mary gives birth to the Son of God. Lk. 2:7

Mary lays Jesus in a manger so that everyone could kiss Him and take Him in their arms. Lk. 2:7 Jesus entered the world in poverty to teach the lesson of detachment from earthly things.

Angels announce to shepherds nearby: “The Savior is born.” Lk. 2:10,11 Angels sing: “Peace to men of good will.” Lk. 2:14

The shepherds came to the stable to pay homage to the infant Jesus. All na ons serve Him. Ps. 72:11

God created a miraculous Star, Bethlehem Star to announce to the world about the Savior and the Star led the Mai to the gro o.

Three Wise men come from the East in search of Christ. Mt. 2:1,2

They bring gi s of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Mt. 2:11

Those who accept Christ become children of God. Jn. 1:12

The Fourth Joyful Mystery Say the Our Father: Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. A er 40 days of Jesus birth, He was presented in the Temple. According to the law the rst born male child of every family should be consecrated to the Lord. Jesus is not the subject to the law of Moses, yet to teach obedience, submits to it. When the Child Jesus is eight days old, He is circumcised. Lk. 2:21

His parents name Him Jesus. Lk. 2:21 The name of Jesus is the only name by which we can be saved. Acts 4:12 “Ask the Father anything in My Name. He will give it to you.” Jn. 16:23 Lord, You are good and forgiving to all who call upon Your Name. Ps. 86:5 Joseph and Mary take Jesus to their hometown of Nazareth. Lk. 2:39 Obeying the law of Moses, they take Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord.

Mary o ers her Son to the Father, then ransoms Him back at the price paid by the poor. Mary is not subject to the law of puri ca on, yet to teach obedience, submits to it.

The Presentation” Spiritual Fruit-Obedience.” Say: Hail Mary’s while medita ng on the Mystery. Say ten: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Simeon meets them in the temple. God had revealed to Simeon, that he would not see death un l he had seen the Messiah.

Simeon, a holy man, foretells: “This Child is des ned for the fall and rise of many.” Lk. 2:34

Recognizing the child, he prays: “Now you can dismiss your servant in peace. You have ful lled your word”

Simon blessed them and said to Mary, “Your own soul a sword shall pierce.” Lk. 2:35

Jesus is twelve years old; He goes with his parents to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover Lk. 2:42

A er the feast of the Passover, Joseph and Mary set out for Nazareth while Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents realizing it. Lk. 2:43

At the end of the rst day’s journey they discover Jesus is missing. Mary and Joseph return to Jerusalem looking for Him. Lk. 2:45

On that third day they nd Jesus in the temple among the Doctors who were astonished at His wisdom. Lk. 2:46

Mary: “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been searching for you in sorrow?

Jesus, the Son of God, obeys His parents. Lk. 2:51

God tells us: Honor your father and your mother. Mt. 15:4

Mary keeps all those things in her heart. If you love Me, obey My commandments. Jn. 14:15

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at Jordan to be baptized by him Matt 3:13 Seeing Jesus, John exclaims: “Behold the Lamb of God.”

There was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. John 2:1-11

During the wedding feast the wine ran short.

When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him,” They have no wine” John 2:3-5

Jesus replied; “ Women, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”

Mary said to the waiters: “Do whatever He tells you.”

There were six stone water jars, each holding een to twenty gallons.

Jesus bids the waiters to ll the jars with water, and then draw some out and take it to the chief steward.

The chief steward said to the groom: “Every man serves the good wine rst… but you have saved the good wine un l now.”

At Mary’s request, Jesus worked His rst miracle.

By His presence, Chris an marriage was raised to the dignity of a Sacrament.

The Wedding in Cana - Spiritual Fruit: To Jesus through Mary

Jesus was going throughout all Galilee; teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sicknesses among the people

…. Large crowds follow him from Galilee and then the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan. (Matt 4-23,25) “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.”

Unless a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.”Jn. 3:8

Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God as a li le child will not enter into it.” Mk 10 :15

“I have come to call sinners, not the just.” Mk 2 :17, Lk 5:32

“Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you.” Ma 5:43-44

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Ma 5:3

“You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church… I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.”Ma 16:18

Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and let them up on the high mountain by themselves. (Mount Tabor) Ma 17:2

Jesus was trans gured before them, His face shone like the sun, and his government became as whit as light. Ma 17:2 His face became as dazzling as the sun, his clothes as radiant as light.” Jesus was trans gured before them; and behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him Ma 17,1-3

This was to for fy their faith to withstand the coming tragedy of the Passion. Then peter said to Jesus; Lord it is good that we are here. Ma 17:4

Jesus foresaw the ‘scandal of the cross,’ and prepared them for it by this manifesta on of His glory.

The Transfiguration - Spiritual Fruit: Spiritual Courage Say: Hail Mary’s while meditating on the Mystery. Moses and Elias (represen ng the Law and the prophets of the Old Testament) were conversing with Jesus about His Passion, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them.

Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him” Ma 17:5-6

When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. Ma 17:7

Jesus admonishes them not to tell the vision to anyone un l the Son of Man rises from the dead. Ma 17:9-10

We too will behold the trans gured Jesus on the Last Day.

Then Jesus took a cup of wine and gave thanks.

At the Last Supper Jesus ins tuted the sacrament of Holy Orders to perpetuate this sacri ce on the Cross. At every Mass this sacri ce of Calvary is made present.

Establishment of priesthood So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have given you an example. What I have done for you, you should also do. Amen, amen, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him” Jn: 13:14-16

In the the Mass we o er ourselves to God, and God gives himself to us. The Eucharist is a sacri ce in as much as it is o ered up, and a sacrament in as much as it is received. The Mass will be frui ul in the measure of our surrender to the Father.

The Temple guards seized Jesus, bound him, and brought him rst to Annas, the father-in-law of the High Priest Caiphas. Then Jesus is taken before the High Priest Caiphas where He is falsely accused and insulted.

It was late at night they lock up Jesus. He spends the night in prison. He was tortured there ll morning.( 15 secret tortures and su ering of Jesus was revealed to Sister Mary Magdalen of the Sancta Clara Order.)

Early Friday morning, they had Jesus bound and handed him over to Pon us Pilate to judge and condemn Jesus.

Pilate decides to send Jesus to Herod to be tried. Herod sees Jesus as no threat and returns him to Pilate.

Pilate asks, “Are You a King of the Jews?” Mark 15:1,2 Jesus replied, “Mine is not a kingdom of this world; but yes, I am a King.” Joh 18:36,37

Jesus. “I came into the world for this: to bear witness of the truth ; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice. John 18:37 “Truth? Said Pilate, what is that? ; and with that he went out again to the Jews and said, “ I nd no case against him.” Joh 18:36 Then he said; I can release one prisoner to you at Passover. Do you want me to release to you the King of Jews? They shouted: “not this one but Barabbas!”

Pilate did not want to condemn Jesus, but to appease the Jews, he orders Jesus to be scourged. Pilate then had Jesus taken away and scourged. Lk 23;16; Jn19:1

Despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows. Isaiah 53:3 Harshly dealt with, he bore it humbly, like a lamb that is led to the slaughterhouse. Isaiah 53:7 The scourge is made of leather thongs to which are a ached small sharp bones.

Jesus is bound to a pillar and cruelly scourged un l His whole body is covered with deep wounds. “Yet he was pierced through for our faults, crushed for our sins.” Isaiah 53:5

In the Praetorium, soldiers fashion a crown out of thorns, and forcefully press it down upon Jesus’ head. “And having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head.” Ma 27:29

In His bound hands they place a reed, as a sceptre, in mockery of His kingship. “And plays a read in his right hand.” Ma 27:29

To make fun of him they knelt to him saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” Ma 27:29

And they spat on him and took the read and struck him on the head.” Ma 27:29 , driving the thorns more deeply into His scalp.

Pilate brings Jesus before the people, hoping His pi ful sight will so en them, and said: “Behold the man!” “Here is your king. “Take him away” Joh 19:15

Their response: “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” “ Why what harm has he done? But they shouted all the louder ,’Crucify him!’ Mk 15:15

Pilate: do you want me to crucify your king? The chief priest answered we have no king except Caesar’ John 19:15 ”Pilate: isn’t this enough, look at him. They shouted “cruci ed him.”

It is you who wants to crucify him not I. So Pilate, anxious to placate the crowd handed him over to be cruci ed. Mk 15:15 Our Blessed Lord submi ed to this terrible humilia on to make repara on for our pride.

The su ering of Jesus is intense as the cross is laid on His bruised and wounded back and shoulders. Weak and exhausted from loss of blood, lack of food and rest, Jesus falls the rst me. “Shoulder my yoke and learn from me” Ma 11:29 (The rst fall is to atone our fall to the tempta ons of the ash) Jesus meets His a icted Mother causing untold anguish in the Hearts of Son and Mother.

Fearing that Jesus might die on the way, the soldiers force Simon of Cyrene to help carry the cross with Jesus. “And they seized on a man, Simon from Cyrene, and made him shoulder the cross and carry it behind Jesus.” Lk23;26

The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea on the evening of Good Friday.

Fearing the body of Jesus will be taken, the chief priests place guards at the tomb.

Jesus descend into the realm of the dead to announce to the Just the dings of their redemp on. ("Abraham's Bosom" (Lk 16:22), a special place that was set apart from the rest of hell by a great gap or gulf. This arrangement was temporary, because a er Jesus died, he went to Abraham's Bosom and led those who were there into heaven.

On the third day Jesus is risen from the dead, glorious and immortal. Lk. 24:6 The Earth quakes as the angel rolls back the stone, the guards ee in terror.

Sunday morning the holy women coming to anoint the body of Jesus are amazed and frightened to nd no body of Jesus. An angel calms their fears: “He’s not here. He has risen as he said.”

Jesus remains on Earth 40 days a er his Resurrec on. He commissions the apostle to preach the gospel to every creature and promise to be with them forever. “I am with you all days.” Mt. 28:20 “Make disciples of all na ons.” Mt. 28:19 I will not leave you orphans but will send Holy Spirit to enlighten and strengthen you.

“I am going to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.” Jn. 20:17

“I go to prepare a place for you.” Jn. 14:2“That where I am, there you also may be.” Jn. 14:3

Jesus proceed to the Mount Olivet accompanied by his Holy Mother and the apostles and disciple.

Mary leaves many years on Earth a er death of Christ

A er the apostles have dispersed, the Blessed Mother goes to leave with John.

She was the source of comfort, consola on and strength to the apostles.

As she had nourished the infant Jesus, so she nourished spirituality the infant Church.

“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” Lk. 1:28 You will not su er your faithful one to undergo corrup on.” Ps. 16:10“You are the glory of Jerusalem. You are the splendid boast of our people.” Jud. 15:9

Mary dies, not of bodily in rmity, but is wholly overcome in the rapture of divine love.

Her body as well as her soul is taken up into heaven “Arise, My beloved, My beau ful one, and come.” S. of S. 2:10 Jesus does not permit the sinless body of His Mother to decay in the grave. Corrup on of the body is an e ect of the original sin from which Mary is totally exempted.

A er her burial the apostles go to the tomb and nd fragrant lilies.

The hearts of Jesus and Mary over ow with joy at this reunion.“Blessed are you, daughter… above all women on earth.” Jud. 13:18 “You are all beau ful… and there is no blemish in you.” S. of S. 4:7
