Big Ideas

• Knowledge, skills and vocabulary identified • Low stakes quizzing to develop long term memory. • Deepening knowledge initiative allows for retrieval of theme based knowledge and learning beyond this. • Key concepts are revisited • Vertical and horizontal links across the curriculum supported by shared understanding of retrieval practice strategies.

Content and Sequencing

Children access experiences in Music as part of continuous provision then to support the development of the national curriculum through topic themes. Topical themes and events may also be incorporated across school or in phases e.g. . Learning may be ‘blocked’ over sustained periods or as a regular session throughout the school year. The skills/knowledge are identified and developmental. Areas developed are: Composing Listening Performing Differences & Similarities between musicians and songs Music reflecting society at the time Using Musical vocabulary (Pitch, Tempo, Rhythm, Melody, Texture etc) Wider knowledge of musical styles & artists Capturing learning in recordings and videos

Lesson sequences have clear outcomes and these are used to assess against. Quizzing is a vehicle to check out what is being retained and used to deepen knowledge across the broader subject. Peer Assessment captures learners thoughts, feelings and progress. Performances and recordings are a means to share and celebrate.

Inclusion

Everyone has access to the Music National Curriculum. Support is provided for those learners who require it, including physical adaptations. Some learners access additional music based experiences as part of a support offer around their needs.
