Shakespeare: Students will study the language and dramatic conventions of Romeo and Juliet, looking at key extracts and structuring their responses to themes and characters. Ratio and Scale, Multiplicative Change and Multiplying and Dividing Fractions: Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to gain a deeper understanding of the topics. Electricity and Magnetism: Students will study electrical circuits in series and parallel and investigate resistance in a circuit. Students will investigate magnets, magnetic fields and electromagnets. Reproduction: The reproductive systems in humans, the process of fertilisation and role of the placenta during pregnancy and the development of the foetus. Networks: Students will develop an understanding of wired and wireless networks, how they are arranged, and the hardware needed. They will explore what the internet is and the services it provides including the world wide web.

How did the monarchy lose power by 1830? Students will look at the reigns of James I, Charles I and how the power of the monarch was slowly eroded through events such as the English Civil war. Students will look at why the role of the Prime Minister became more powerful than that of the monarch. What is truth? Students will explore what truth is, what it is to know truth and how we gain knowledge. We will be exploring the philosophers and religious leaders: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Jesus, Descartes, David Hume as well as Richard Dawkins. Holidays: Students will start the year talking about holidays. We will introduce the preterite tense in order to be able to talk about a past holiday and review previous learning of present tense to be able to use multiple tenses together in all skill areas.

‘Conflict through time’: Transactional writing unit
Working in the cartesian plane, collecting and representing data and tables: Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to gain a deeper understanding of the topics. Chemical reactions: Students will study chemical symbols, formulae and equations. They will cover testing for gases and oxidation reactions. They will also look at how metals react in acids and any patterns in reactivity and explore exothermic and endothermic reactions. Web development: Students will develop a website using google sites and improve programming skills using HTML to code a website. The two different methods will be compared and contrasted. Students will also learn how they would host websites online. Football Dance Badminton
Astounding Africa: Students will continue to build on their knowledge and understanding of places embedded throughout year 7 by exploring Africa. Students will explore the human development of Africa, as well as how humans interact with these extreme environments. What was the impact of the Industrial Revolution on ordinary people? Students will look at how the industrial revolution changed the landscape of Britain. They will use the work of historian Emma Griffin to look at evidence of individual stories during this period. How do we make moral decisions? Students will explore the questions: Should laws today still be influenced by religious writings? Are some rules universal and timeless? The faith focus will be Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Holidays: Students will consolidate knowledge of the preterite tense, talking about past holidays, before being introduced to the future tense so that students can talk about where they are going to go on holiday or would like to go. Finally, students will be introduced to cultural aspects of Spain and Latin America, appreciating different traditions in various Spanish speaking countries.
