Dear parents and carers Last week a group of Year 7 and 8 pupils from our Canterbury Academy and SPIRES classes went away for 2 nights to the Kingswood Outdoor Activity Centre. For many young people, it was their first time staying away from their parents and certainly the first time going with their friends on holiday! I’m pleased to say that the trip was a great success and even the weather was (quite) kind to us. Over the page there are lots of photos of the trip for you to enjoy! Towards the end of this term students in Key Stage 4 have been sitting their Entry Level exams in Maths and English. Lots of hard work has been put in to preparing for these exams, particularly around completing the questions independently and understanding the types of questions that are asked. I have attached a sample of an Entry Level 1 Maths paper, which is the first level of qualification that students undertake. It is never too early to think about what students are working towards doing independently as they progress through the school! Best wishes Dave Jenner
What is chromatography? Chromatography is a process for separating components of a mixture. To get the process started, a mixture is dissolved in a substance, which carries it through a second substance.
S1B conducted an investigation into chromatography, they looked at the processes involved in the identification and separation of colours and compared the effects between skittles and smarties. They may have even had a few to eat afterwards!
