A very warm welcome to St. Teresa’s Catholic Primary School

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of St. Teresa’s Catholic Primary School. Our school mission statement is at the heart of our philosophy, ‘Do the little things well’ - St. Teresa of Lisieux

Staff, governors, children, parents and I will work together to do all things well, to the very best of our ability to support, nurture, educate and care for our children so that they can become the best they can possibly be. Our work is rooted in the Gospel values of love, respect, trust and forgiveness.

As Headteacher, I work with the staff to ensure we provide the children in our care with the best academic education. We work equally hard to bring out all those hidden God-given gifts and talents in every child, to teach them good values by which to live by and to prepare them for the fast-changing world in which they live. We consider our children as individuals, who are facing future challenges and ultimately leave us ready for secondary school, having enjoyed and embraced their learning experiences along the way.

All are welcome in our wonderful school. Please contact the school office or look on our website so that we can arrange for you to come and look around.

Join us and become part of a vibrant learning community where every child’s potential is celebrated and nurtured with care and dedication.

“The school motto of ‘Do the little things well’ is more than just a motto, it is the thread that runs through the work of this school.”

Our curriculum

Here at St. Teresa’s, we have a curriculum for all children which engages and helps children to know more and remember more. We encourage our children to do all things well to the best of their ability inspired by our school mission statement ‘do the little things well’.

We audited our curriculum and chose what we want our children to experience and achieve. We want our children to leave St. Teresa’s ready for secondary school and with knowledge and skills to help them in their future lives. Our pupils’ backgrounds, our culture and our climate for learning provide the following drivers that underpin our curriculum and our vision and weave through all that we do.

Respect – Resilience – Read – Retain

Respect: We aim to develop a sense of respect for themselves, peers, adults, other faiths and cultures, the environment and the wider world.

Resilience: We aim to develop a ‘give it a go’ and ‘its ok to make mistakes’ attitude within our children to prepare them for life beyond school.

Read: We believe that reading is the doorway to all learning, we will prioritise the teaching of reading in school.

Retain: We aim for our children to know more and remember more; our curriculum design will reinforce and revisit skills and knowledge.

“Pupils like school, they’re happy, safe and enjoy learning.”
“Parents and pupils value the care and support the school provides.”

Special educational needs and disabilities

As an inclusive school, all teachers are teachers of pupils with special educational needs & disabilities (SEND). We deliver a curriculum and create an environment that meets the needs of every pupil within our school. We ensure that every pupil with SEND makes the best progress possible. We foster and promote effective working partnerships with parents, carers, pupils, and outside agencies. We consider the ‘whole’ child and strive to ensure that all our SEND pupils are prepared for adulthood.

Apply for a place at St. Teresa’s

Starting primary school is a very important time for you and your child, and at St. Teresa’s we aim to make this a happy experience for everyone. Children can start school in our Reception class in the September of the academic year in which they will be five years old.

To gain a place at St. Teresa’s, you will need to apply through Hartlepool Borough Council’s website. Please click the link for more information or scan the QR code. Alternatively, you can contact the school office. www.hartlepool.gov.uk/info/20014/schools_and_learning

If your child is not already attending our school Nursery, they will be invited to spend some informal sessions with their new teacher and other children from the class in the summer term in order to familiarise themselves with the school environment. An information evening for our new Reception class parents is also held in the summer term.

For mid-year admissions, at other times of the year or for year groups other than Reception, please go through Hartlepool Borough Council ( https://www.hartlepool.gov.uk/info/20014/schools_and_learning/ 655/in_year_school_admissions). We highly recommend contacting the school in the first instance for a visit.
