29th September 2023 Dear Parent Carers, Weekly Update: 29/09/23 I hope this update finds you well. Over this term, Annual Reviews are taking place for Year 11 students, and this is the start of their transition from main school to Post-16. I’ve shared a couple of flyers for events are taking place next week which may help inform your decisions about which Post-16 provision would best suit your young person. We actively encourage families to start looking at Post-16 provisions - it’s never too early to start thinking about the future! St Andrew’s Academy are hosting a SEND Futures Fair on Monday 2nd October, and are expecting representatives from local SEND provisions to learn more about Post16 opportunities in Derby and the local area. St Martins and Noel-Baker Academy are hosting a Next Steps Careers Event on Thursday 5th October. A wide variety of Post-16 provisions – from colleges to universities, to apprenticeships and traineeships will be there to share information. Attendance Expectations Year 7s have made a great start this academic year, with an incredible 97% attendance between them! We are proud of their positive start. Monitoring the attendance of students is something that is done on a daily basis, as we work to Shape Successful Students for our students. It is essential that students maintain a school attendance of at least 95% wherever possible. It is our goal to get our students to achieve this, and therefore have the best start to life that they can. We understand that there are many genuine and necessary reasons for students to miss school occasionally, particularly in the case of illness and medical absences. We would encourage you to continue to work with us and ensure that we are notified at the start of every absence, and to ask us for help if you should need any support in improving your child’s attendance during the coming term. Please contact Jessica Longhurst if you wish to discuss this. Cough and Cold Season As we’ve settled back into school, cough and cold season has returned. We encourage families to maintain their health by being prepared; eating well and having enough vitamins, getting a decent amount of sleep, and having vaccinations where possible will hopefully make the difference, as nobody enjoys Sabrina Hobbs Principal St Martins School, The Derwent Campus, Bracknell Drive, Alvaston, Derby, DE24 0BT Tel: 01332 571151 Email: admin@stmartins.derby.sch.uk Online: www.stmartinsschoolderby.co.uk The Shaw Education Trust Limited is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England (no 09067175) Registered address: Shaw Education Trust, Kidsgrove Secondary School, Gloucester Road, Kidsgrove, ST7 4DL.
