27th January 2023 Dear Parent Carers, Weekly Update: 27/01/23 I hope this update finds you well. I wanted to share an update from our Project SEARCH interns at the Royal Derby Hospital. The interns have been in post since September, and are developing their skills, knowledge and employability. We are so proud of all that they have achieved, and look forward to seeing how far they go. I hope you enjoy reading their news!

Project Search Update Since returning from the Christmas break, all interns have transitioned into their second placements: Abbie has moved into an Admin role with the facilities management team where she has already been using her IT skills to book interpreters for patients and also her leadership skills to inspect the satellite kitchens. As part of this placement, she will also be seeing how the facilities management team run other hospitals within the trust. Arjan is now working with STERIS and learning how to sterilise the equipment used in clinics and theatres. This is a new and exciting placement and the feedback we are getting in just two weeks is fantastic. One of Arjan’s tasks includes wrapping instruments ready to be sterilised for theatre and for this role he needs to be dressed in gowns, head to toe! Lennon enjoyed his library placement so much that they have agreed he can stay there another 2 days a week as there is still so much for him to learn there. Lennon is now also spending 3 days a week in medical records preparing and supporting them for a big move in March to new premises. Sabrina is in a back of house Catering role and responsible for ensuring all meals are ready to go to the wards on time. This is a big change for Sabrina as her first placement was on the wards. Sabrina identified that she wanted to experience a back of house role to see the difference and get a wide variety of roles during her time on the programme. James is learning various tasks with the portering teams and particularly enjoying being on mattress duty, with over 2000 mattresses in the hospital there is plenty for him to do.
