18th October 2024 Dear Parent Carers, Weekly Update: 18/10/24 We hope this update finds you well. Students and staff have had a great half term so far, and we are nearly ready for the half term break. As we are all starting to feel tired and the seasonal bugs start going around, we encourage families to maintain their health by being prepared; eating well and having enough vitamins, getting a decent amount of sleep, and having vaccinations where possible. This will hopefully make the difference, as nobody enjoys being poorly. Did you know that our amazing students have been representing St Martins School and Horizons 6th Form nationally and internationally this week? Here’s what they’ve been up to: 

Two 6th Form students, Alex and Sam took part in a visit to Poland as part of the Holocaust Education Trust’s ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ project. Accompanied by two staff, Alex and Sam flew to Krakow and visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp with other schools from the region. As part of the project, Alex and Sam will attend additional sessions to learn more about the Holocaust and become ambassadors who are empowered to talk about this with their peers. Two Key Stage 4 students, Amrit and Anselmo were invited to attend the Shaw Education Trust’s Key Stage 3 awards ceremony where they were both presented with awards. o Amrit’s award celebrated her positive attitude, being a role model and always ready to learn. o Anselmo’s award celebrated that he has shown resilience throughout the school year and is always engaged in his learning. Well done to Amrit and Anselmo – we are so proud of your achievements!

Our students at Horizons 6th Form impress us constantly with all of the activities that they get involved in; including recently hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning and attending First Aid Training with The Red Cross. Please read their news on the next two pages. Have a great weekend,

Sabrina Hobbs Executive Headteacher
