13th June 2025 Dear Parent Carers, Weekly Update: 13/06/25 I hope this update finds you well. It’s been great to enjoy some warmer weather over the past week, and with next week also promising to be quite pleasant, please can I encourage you to provide sun cream for your child if they spend time in the sunshine on their breaks at school. Sun cream can be applied before school, and students can also top up during the day if they need to – please ensure any bottles are labelled and in-date. Headteacher Recruitment Update As you are aware, I will be taking up a new position within Esteem Multi Academy Trust from September. In preparation for this, over the last 6 weeks leaders from within our Trust (SET) have been undertaking a rigorous recruitment process to cover the Headteacher position for St Martins School going forwards, of which there was much interest. Following the completion of this exciting process, I am extremely happy and proud to announce that Toni Beardmore will be the next Headteacher of St Martins School, starting in September. I know that you will be equally as pleased and excited to celebrate in this achievement and next chapter for our fantastic school. As you will expect, we plan for a smooth transition, and we are grateful for your support in working with us to ensure St Martins continues to grow and develop from strength to strength. Stakeholder Consultation for 6th Form Move Earlier this week we shared a consultation with all the stakeholders of St Martins School regarding a proposed significant change to the location of the 6th Form. As you may be aware, Horizons 6th Form moved to Irongate from the Market Hall ahead of its’ redevelopment back in 2021. The building at Irongate has served us well over the years, although due to the nature of such an old building, it was not possible to make it as accessible as we would have liked. Through discussions with Derby City Council, we became aware of an opportunity to move into Friar Gate Studios, and we feel that this relocation will provide the students with a more modern infrastructure, improved accessibility, capacity to grow and develop the provision, as well as closer proximity to other educational and community services that can support our students’ development and transition into adulthood. Pending approval of our plans, we would like to welcome our students to Friar Gate Studios from September 2025 and hope to build in a transition visit to the site ahead of the summer holiday for current Horizons students and those due to start in September. Information about this will be shared via pastoral staff once we gain approval.
