12th July 2024 Dear Parent Carers, Update: 12/07/24 I hope this update finds you well. As I write, students and staff are working hard to set-up for the Summer Fayre – the team are looking forward to being able to catch up with Parent Carers across the afternoon and hope that those who have been able to come have had an enjoyable time. Towards the end of 2023, I wrote to families to let you know about some changes in school. Since November, I have been supporting another school in the Shaw Education Trust and became Executive Headteacher across St Martins and Portland. There has recently been a development in how I split my time, and this currently means that I am at Portland for most of the week. My time at Portland was initially planned to finish in July 2024, but due to further developments this will continue for at least another year. Whilst I am not able to be at St Martins as much as I would like, I remain committed to the continued success of our fantastic school. Toni Beardmore remains Head of School with Rachel Cooper continuing as Deputy Head of School. Toni and Rachel have excelled in these new roles, and I am confident that they will continue to do so. Heather Woodward – Assistant Headteacher and SENCO, returns from Maternity Leave on Monday 15th July and will add additional capacity to the team. Please feel free to contact myself or Toni at school if you wish to discuss these changes. Our Well Being Team At St Martins, we have a Well Being Team in place to provide additional support to students. The team are multi-skilled and work with students in lots of different ways to support their personal, social and emotional progress. The team works closely with the Family Support Team who work collaboratively to support families at home. So that you can find out more about them, we asked them to write about themselves… Tammy I’m the Lead Learning Mentor with the Well Being team. In my role, I support students 1 to 1, deliver group sessions on emotional regulation, turn taking and friendships. I provide co-regulation with students who need a sensory diet. Other sessions include Lego Therapy, craft groups, positive support, sensory/play sessions and messy play.
