Our curriculum

At St. Cuthbert’s we are committed to ensuring that children become the most effective learners that they can possibly be. We want children to know more, and remember more, so that they have every door open to them when they leave St. Cuthbert’s. Our curriculum at St. Cuthbert’s has been built around our vision of Belonging, Believing and Being aspirational. We are passionate about combining high standards with a broad, creative and fulfilling curriculum so everyone can grow and discover their own unique talents. All the subjects and opportunities available to our children are guided by these principles.

Belonging - At St. Cuthbert’s we belong to a community which encompasses mutual support, trust and respect. Children work together to share their ideas and to inspire each other to fulfil their potential. We belong to our local community in Stockton and our curriculum is enriched through our involvement with our local parks, theatres, sports groups, businesses, charities and places of worship.

Believing - We believe in the value and individual potential of every child, and we are guided by our belief in the Gospel values and our Trust virtues.

Being Aspirational - Our curriculum has been designed to develop pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural wellbeing, and promote a sound understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, government, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

“The curriculum is enriched by many interesting and worthwhile activities so that pupils have a wide range of experiences.”
“Pupils say they feel safe at school.”

Special educational needs and disabilities

As an inclusive school, all teachers are teachers of pupils with special educational needs & disabilities (SEND). We deliver a curriculum and create an environment that meets the needs of every pupil within our school. We ensure that every pupil with SEND makes the best progress possible. We foster and promote effective working partnerships with parents, carers, pupils, and outside agencies. We consider the ‘whole’ child and strive to ensure that all our SEND pupils are prepared for adulthood.

St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School is an inclusive school and all teachers:

• Do everything they can to meet pupils’ special educational needs.

• Ensure that pupils with SEND engage in activities alongside their peers.

• Provide high-quality teaching, differentiated for individual pupils.

If your child is not already attending our school Nursery, they will be invited to spend some informal sessions with their new teacher and other children from the class in the summer term in order to familiarise themselves with the school environment. An information evening for our new Reception class parents is also held in the summer term.

For mid-year admissions, at other times of the year or for year groups other than Reception, please go through Stockton-On-Tees Borough Council (https://www.stockton.gov.uk/article/2543/School-transfersand-in-year-admissions).
