A very warm welcome to St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School
I am proud to be Headteacher of a happy and nurturing school that puts children at the heart of all decisions. A school that has a shared vision for all children and sees everyone as a family member.
At St. Cuthbert’s, our faith underpins all that we do and is central to our belief that every child is unique and valued. We nurture our pupils so that they become caring and compassionate human beings, ready to make a positive contribution to the wider community.
Our Motto ‘Live the Light, Share the Light, Be the Light’ always reminds us that it is our mission to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in the way we live our lives and in the decisions we make.
At St. Cuthbert’s, we provide an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where the needs of the individual are both recognised and well supported. We consider ourselves to be a family where your child can grow physically, academically, socially and emotionally.
All are welcome in our wonderful school. Please contact the school office so that we can arrange for you to come and look around.

Our curriculum
We provide a rich and varied learning environment that enables our children to maximize their potential. Our aspirational approach encourages all children to believe in themselves and recognise their right to aim high no matter what their starting point is. We consider ourselves to be a family where children can grow, physically, academically, socially and emotionally. We are concerned with the development of the whole child, his/her relationship with society, and the world in which they live. We see this as a partnership with parents and aim to involve the family and the wider community wherever possible. Our strength lies in working together as a community towards a shared goal, with Christ at the Centre and children at the heart of all we do.
We believe that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone. Through our teaching, we equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices about their futures. We believe that exciting teaching and learning experiences, and a progressive curriculum with the appropriate level of challenge, will help children to lead happy and rewarding lives.
“The school is outstanding in its work around pupils’ welfare and personal development.’”

Special educational needs and disabilities
As an inclusive school, all teachers are teachers of pupils with special educational needs & disabilities (SEND). We deliver a curriculum and create an environment that meets the needs of every pupil within our school. We ensure that every pupil with SEND makes the best progress possible. We foster and promote effective working partnerships with parents, carers, pupils, and outside agencies. We consider the ‘whole’ child and strive to ensure that all our SEND pupils are prepared for adulthood.

Apply for a place at St. Cuthbert’s
Starting primary school is a very important time for you and your child, and at St. Cuthbert’s we aim to make this a happy experience for everyone. Children can start school in our Reception class in the September of the academic year in which they will be five years old.
To gain a place at St. Cuthbert’s, you will need to apply through Durham County Council’s website. Please click the link for more information or scan the QR code. Alternatively, you can contact the school office. https:// stcuthbertscrook.bhcet.org.uk/information/admissions
If your child is not already attending our school Nursery, they will be invited to spend some informal sessions with their new teacher and other children from the class in the summer term in order to familiarise themselves with the school environment. An information evening for our new Reception class parents is also held in the summer term.
For mid-year admissions, at other times of the year or for year groups other than Reception, please go through Durham County Council (https:// www.durham.gov.uk/article/2197/Apply-to-change-school-during-theschool-year). We highly recommend contacting the school in the first instance for a visit.
