Statement of Curriculum Intent Computing – KS 1,2,3 and 4
We understand that to prepare our students for their future we need to be giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever changing digital world. Knowledge and understanding of ICT is of increasing importance for children’s future, both at home and for their future employment. In the recent After the reboot: computing education in UK schools (2018), it was stated that in order for children to leave school and “to embark on successful professional careers and to become astute and responsible citizens...children should begin to study computing at the earliest age possible”. Within our computing curriculum, we focus on the progression of skills in digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding technology. These strands are revisited repeatedly to ensure the learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed and built upon. Our intention is that computing also supports children’s creativity and cross curricular learning to engage children and enrich their experiences in school.
