A look ahead to Term 6

BEING PROUD AND BEING OUR BEST by Mr Downes, Headteacher We are now in full swing with the Y11s taking their formal examinations. This marks the culmination of their time and hard-work here at Rye College. Despite everything that has been thrown at them and all the disruption to their learning, their focus, attitude, commitment and positivity is very impressive. It is very heart-warming to watch them as they go through this rite of passage denied to the students in 2020 and 2021: from the small acts of kindness shown to their fellow students in a moment of crisis before an examination to the sense of calm and confidence they show when completing a paper. These examinations represent an opportunity for each and every student to shine, show their best and be proud. I am very proud of this cohort and look forward to sharing their delight on results day as they embark on the next stage of their journey to their bright futures.

Over this last term, we have been working on a project to refresh our College values. This has meant distilling Rye SMART (Standards, Mindset, Attendance, Rye Community, and Teaching and Learning) values into five key phrases: Be Proud, Be Committed, Be Positive, Be Employable, and Be Kind. These values are integral to the whole College, our curriculum and our day-to-day lives. We view these as providing distinct and simple values that, alongside the knowledge taught within our curriculum, will empower all our children with the attributes required for creating their bright futures and being happy, successful and self-fulfilled individuals. Finally, we are delighted to announce that we have appointed WPA Education Welfare Services to support our focus on attendance. This dedicated education welfare service will work with families directly two days a week on removing barriers to attendance and provide support where required. We look forward to welcoming the service to the school and working with them. Have a great half term break. See you for Term 6!
