THANKS TO ALL
by Mr Downes, Head of College It has indeed been another busy term and we are looking forward to a well-earned Easter break. The Y11s have completed their second round of Pre-Public Examinations and are now on the home straight. Y9s have completed their Choices for Key Stage 4 and are now awaiting their course allocations. Once again, I have been humbled by the genuine out-pouring of good will and kindness from the college community to those who are suffering as donations from our students and their families flooded in for victims of the conflict in Ukraine. And throughout, we have maintained our focus on creating bright futures for all through providing transformative learning. I must thank everyone – students, staff and families - for their hard-work, support and dedication. In a recent letter to families across East Sussex, the Directors of Children’s Services and Public Health sort to draw attention to the on-going difficulties we are facing as a result of the pandemic. In their letter, they state, “We would like to thank you for your continued support for our schools. We are now in a different phase of the covid pandemic with previous restrictions lifted and different expectations for us all. However, rates of infection are still high in some parts of the county, and this does create some challenges. There are schools with higher than usual numbers of staff off work because of illness, either for themselves or their own families. This means that you may still experience some disruption to your child’s learning into the summer term.”
Unfortunately, like most schools, we continue to face disruption as a result of COVID but we have worked very hard, with your support, to minimise the impact on our students. I would like to emphasise Alison Jeffery’s and Darrell Gales final words, “schools are a safe place for children, and it is important that they attend regularly. This is really important for their learning and so that they can enjoy the opportunities at school to meet with their friends, play sport and participate in all the other activities that schools offer." Wishing you all a Happy Easter!
