COMPONENT 2 – CHILD LANGUAGE ACQUISITION Students will explore and critically evaluate the development of literacy skills in children between the ages of 0 and 8. Students They will focus on the spoken language acquisition of children and will explore how children learn to read and write. COMPONENT 3 – INVESTIGATING LANGUAGE Students will have the opportunity to develop their research and investigation skills. They will consolidate their knowledge of language frameworks and key language concepts gained from components 1, 2 and the non-examination assessment. Students will apply these skills to an area of language study that particularly interests them, selected from pre-released subtopics, in preparation for an externally assessed examination. COMPONENT 1 - DRAMA Students will study aspects of the form of drama via two plays. The central focus of the drama study is the literary text. Students will need to explore the use of literary and dramatic devices and the shaping of meanings in their chosen plays. Texts studied are: A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams and the Shakespeare play King Lear. COMPONENT 3 – POETRY Students will also develop depth of knowledge about poetic style by studying a selection from the work of a single named poet, or a selection from within a literary period or movement. Literary study of the chosen set poems should be enhanced by study of the contexts in which they were written and received.
