Northbrook Primary Academy - Homework Class: Year 5 Half-term: Summer 1 Theme: Shang Dynasty and China Instructions:
Choose and complete at least 6 activities over the course of the half-term. Hand in through Seesaw or bring into school. Each piece will be worth 1-10 house points. We expect you to complete each homework task with care. We expect you to complete each homework to the best of your ability. Good luck! We can’t wait to see your work.
What is the weather like in China? Make a bar or line chart of the temperature for each month (Jan to Dec). Then write up some interesting facts and findings you can see from your chart. Create one of your own oracle bones with a story using ancient Chinese pictures/writing. This can be added to our artefact table but remember to write what each symbol means How did the Shang army win battles? Find out about their weapons, and warriors. Draw some pictures of both and write a short paragraph explaining about the Shang Army.
Do a little research about Chinese food. Find something that you would like to try/eat and make it at home with an adult. Write the recipe and evaluate what you and your family thought of it.
Shang Rulers Make a set of ‘Top Trump’ cards for the Shang Dynasty rulers. You could include the length of their reign, battles won, how old they were when they died etc.
What does a Chinese dragon look like? Draw/paint/make a model of one.
Using the artefact sheet, complete the table with key facts about the Shang artefact pictures. You will need to do a little research to find out more about them. For those wanting more – make a PowerPoint with a page for each artefact. Although built after the Shang dynasty, the Great Wall of China was an incredible feat of engineering. Design and make a replica section of the Great Wall of China
