Maths: Fractions •Adding and subtracting fractions. •Finding fractions of amounts. •Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. •Converting improper fractions to mixed fractions. •Finding equivalent fractions. Decimals •Converting between fractions, decimals and percentages.

History: This half term in history we will be focusing on the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilisations. Discovering what life was like, their Gods and their lasting effect on history.

English: This half term we will continue to read the novel Oliver Twist where we will compare Victorian life to modern day life and look at the characters thoughts and feelings throughout the text. We will also be looking at classic narrative poetry, analysing the structure and patterns, leading to us writing our own.

Year 5 Spring 2: ‘Aztecs and Mayans’ Geography: We will be identifying locations in different regions in Mexico and central America. Investigating the reason why villages were built where they were and the importance of natural resources and rainforest for the survival of people and animals.

Science: This term we will be focusing on the changes between states of matter. • Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets. • Demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes.
