English: This half term we will be enjoying the book ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. In this, we will be following the Pevensie children as they travel into the magical world of Narnia. This book will light a spark in our class’ imagination and we will write our own magical version of the story.
Science: In Science, we will be starting off the year by looking at Forces. Forces including Gravity, Friction, Air resistance and Water resistance. In all forces, experiments will take place demonstrating how the force may act on different objects.
Year 5 Half-term 1: Autumn 1
Geography: We will be using our map skills to name and locate counties and cities of the United Kingdom, geographical regions and their identifying human and physical characteristics, land-use patterns; and understand how some of these aspects have changed over time.
Maths Place Value- Number Read, write, (order and compare) numbers up to 1,000,000 and determine the value of each digit .Round any whole number up to one million. Read and write Roman numerals up to 1,000. Solve number and practical problems that involve all of the above Addition and subtraction Perform mental calculations, including with mixed operations and large numbers . Use their knowledge of the order of operations to carry out calculation involving the four operations . Solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why . Identify common factors, common multiples and prime numbers
