Write a persuasive letter or design a poster to encourage people to join the army.
Write a diary entry as either a soldier or a family member of a soldier. It can be the night before a battle or the first night in the trenches. Write a letter as a soldier from the trenches. Your letter is for a loved one back home.
Research the different weapons used in WW1.
Make your own model battlefield including trenches and no man’s land.
Research the different uniforms armies from different countries wore. Identify changes to uniforms over the 4 years (1914-1918)
Produce bar charts showing how many soldiers / civilians died, were wounded or went missing for each country in the war.
Research and make your own model tank from WW1. Look at the difference between modern tanks, WW2 tanks and WW1 tanks. Write a newspaper article about a significant event from WW1. It could be the start of the war, the Battle of the Somme. Research the food that soldiers would have eaten in the trenches. Find a recipe and make it. Make a collage of different battlefields – compare what they are like now and what they were like during the war.
