Northbrook Primary Academy - Homework Class: Reception Half-term: Summer 1 (Wednesday 19th April – Monday 22nd May) Theme: Animal Kingdom Instructions: • • • • • •

Choose and complete at least 6 activities over the course of the half-term. Hand in through Seesaw or bring into school before the deadline. Each piece will be worth 1-10 house points. We expect you to complete each homework task with care. We expect you to complete each homework to the best of your ability. Good luck! We can’t wait to see your work.

Number Practice Can you practise writing your numbers to 10? You could do this with a pencil and a piece of paper or find a more exciting way! Can you paint your numbers? Can you write them in water on the floor? Can you write them in rice or flour? Animal Creations Can you design and make your own animal? What does it look like? What does it eat? What habitat does your animal live in? What does it need to live there? You could junk model your animal, draw it, paint it or build it out of lego!

Tricky Word Spotting Read a book of your choice. How many tricky words can you spot? Can you make a list of the tricky words you find?

Answer the Question What is a habitat?

Phonics Games Use the website ‘Phonics Bloom’ or ‘Phonics Play’ where there are lots of online phonics games. Can you use them to practise your phonics? Which sounds can you remember? Which do you need to practise more?

Spring Go for a walk with your family and find evidence of Spring. You can either collect artefacts or take pictures of what you find!

Animal Facts Can you write a fact sheet for your favourite animal? Where does it live? What does it eat? How big is it? What else do you know about the animal?

Tricky Tweezers Using tweezers or kitchen tongs, how many objects can you move in 1 minute. You could use peas, grapes, pasta pieces or small toys. You could experiment with which toys are easier and which are harder to pick up!

Tree Rubbings Find a tree and using a piece of paper and a wax crayon create a tree rubbing. Try it on different trees. Are the patterns the same or different?

Animal Spotting! Go to your local park or outdoor space. You could even go to a zoo or farm. What animals can you find? Can you write their names and draw them?

Build a Bug Hotel What materials do bugs like? What bugs might come and visit? Put your bug hotel in your garden and see what you can find!

Children’s choice Have your own homework idea linked to our topic or what we have been learning about. Extra points for creativity.
