Communication and Language This half term, we will be focusing on asking questions and using the word ‘why’ to gain more information. We will be learning to ask meaningful questions to find out more information and begin to describe events in some detail to a friend or adult.
Mathematics: Number This half term we will be Introducing zero. We will also be comparing numbers up to 5 and looking at the composition of numbers 4 and 5. Towards the end of the half term we will be looking at numbers 6, 7 and 8 and combining 2 amounts together. Measure, Shape and Spatial Thinking. We will revisit and build upon comparing mass and capacity, looking at the language of ‘empty’ and ‘full’.
Reception – Spring 1 We Could Be Heroes
Literacy We will be writing captions and labels, identifying and using sounds that we know to help us. We will also begin to write short sentences, using a capital letter and full stop.
Personal Social and Emotional Development This half term we will be learning all about resilience as we being to tackle more challenging tasks in out learning. We will learn the importance of ‘having a go’ and consider alternative ways to complete an activity. We will also be looking at moderating our feelings, staying calm during frustrating situations. We will also be looking at road safety and the steps we need to take to become a safe pedestrian.
Phonics We will begin our Phase 3 phonics. We will continue blend our sounds into short words which use sounds that we know and begin to read Pink and Red Band books. We will start to look at Phase 3 digraphs as well, understanding that two graphemes can mean one phoneme.
