Children are able to tune into speech sounds and are beginning to segment and blend sounds into words.

Autumn 1

RWI Phonics Set 1 sounds

Children taking home Pink books and using ActiveLearn once a week (both to be checked and completed at school if not done at home)

Guided Reading

Guided reading groups reading Pink Books. RWI Set 1 sounds

Autumn 2

RWI Phonics: Ditties/Red Guided Reading

Children taking home Red books and ActiveLearn. Weekly Guided reading Red/Yellow RWI Set 1 sounds confident and fluent. RWI Ditties/Red books being taught

Children recognise and recall most Set 1 sounds. Children able to hear, recognise and say the initial sounds in words. Children beginning to segment and blend independently. ELG+: Children reading Ditties Children on Red books Children recognise and recall all Set 1 sounds Children confident with segmenting and blending, starting to read consonant clusters. Red words being recognised, especially: I, the ELG+: Children reading Green books in RWI; Set 2 sounds beginning.

RWI Red book sessions to Children able to read CVC include retrieval ‘fastest and words with consonant clusters with more ease
