Children MUST read regularly for at least 20 minutes each time
It’s not just about the reading –children need to understand what they are reading and be able to discuss the themes.
Children will be able to change their own library books but are responsible for telling an adult when books needs changing.
There is an expectation that the children will choose a book and finish it.

Daily reading – with an adult, where possible

Ask your child questions about what they’ve just read to check their understanding

Read to your child – this models good reading and enables them to access more difficult texts

Encourage your child to write a book review of their finished book.

Encourage children to write at any opportunity e.g. diaries, Christmas lists, stories, thank you letters, emails, holiday journals etc.

Engage them in sophisticated conversations (often children write how they speak).

Ensure your child learns their spellings AND encourage them to understand the meanings -being a good speller is applying it to written work – not just about the weekly test score.

Telling the time – analogue and digital, the concept of time, reading timetables

Constant recall of multiplication facts and the corresponding division facts
Money – adding totals, change, sale prices

Measures – develop an understanding of weight, capacity and length and the conversions between these e.g. How many grams in 1kg? What is a litre?
Cooking is always a good idea!

CHILDREN MAY BE INVOLVED IN BOOSTER OR INTERVENTION GROUPS IN WRITING, READING, MATHS, HANDWRITING OR SPELLING.
CHILDREN WILL WORK WITH THE CLASS TEACHER AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK IN MATHS AND ENGLISH LESSONS.
