Longbenton High School SEND Information Report May 2022
The aim of our SEND Information Report is to give an outline and overview of the provision and practices that we offer to meet the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disability within our school. A child or young person has special educational needs if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. Students have a learning difficulty if they:
Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age. Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age in similar schools.
Students must not be regarded as having a learning difficulty solely because the language of their home is different from the language in which they will be taught. These are considered EAL (English as an Additional Language) students. Areas of need The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2015) states that Children’s SEN are generally thought of in the following broad areas of need and support.
Language and Communication Difficulties. Cognitive and Learning Difficulties. Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties. Physical and Sensory difficulties
