Kirkburton Middle School Parents’ Bulletin - 4 November 2022 Attendance letter - correction Please accept our sincere apologies for a typographical error on the attendance letter we sent out earlier this week. The bullet point on penalty notices should have read AND •

Where the leave of absence has been recorded by the school as unauthorised in the attendance register on at least 10 consecutive sessions (5 school days)

Please also be reassured that we always take context into account when looking at attendance figures. For example, a child who is unfortunate enough to be ill during the first two weeks of term and who misses a day of school as a result would be deemed a persistent absentee by definition. We certainly wouldn't be raising this with families as an attendance concern. Our attendance figures at KMS have historically always been strong and we thank you for your support with this. We want to ensure this continues in order that all pupils continue to make great progress in the, relatively short, time they are with us. We therefore hope that parents recognise the spirit in which the letter was written. Chris Taylor Headteacher

Parent Governor Elections Following the recent Parent Governor Elections where we had one Parent Governor Position to be filled, we received one nomination and we are delighted to announce that Mrs Kimberley Clee has been appointed and will serve for a period of four years from the date of the election (24 October 2022). We really welcome the support from all parents and are looking forward Mrs Clee joining the local governing body at Kirkburton Middle School.

Traffic around the school We have experienced occasions recently where the traffic around the site has been at gridlock and in general it is so busy that it poses a risk to safety. We have also had some issues in the school car park. Of course, the ideal would be for the children to walk or cycle to school but we know that isn’t always practical. Could we therefore ask you to drop off your children away from the school wherever possible and allow them to walk the final part of their journey – a short walk is good for their health and also ensures the safety of all pupils around the school site. If we continue to experience issues we may have to restrict access to the school car park for the parents of pupils with mobility issues only. Thank you for your support to keep all children safe.
