Curriculum +

Heard some wonderful feedback from parents and ASCA music about these lovely pupils from Earith who all performed at a special concert at Abbey College last Wednesday 16th July. Well done, Jamie, Luke, Harry, Layla-Fae, Faye, Maya, Megan & Ava – it’s fantastic to know the hard work and dedication to your music lessons is not only resulting in such progress, but also that you’re showcasing your talents for others to enjoy. You should be very proud.

Congratulations to Oliver P, who I also know recently achieved his yellow belt karate grading. Fantastic, Oliver. Keep up the hard work.

Shout-out to Archie who set himself a target of 60 lengths/1.5k to raise money for his rookie lifeguard group as they need more equipment. The group raised £1850 and Archie smashed the target, achieving 76 lengths (1900m). Well done, Archie - active citizenship!

Thoughtful Parents

Shout-out to Lucas for competing in the Huntingdon Town Rowdies Football tournament. Lucas joined Rowdies in October 2024. Here's what the Manager had to say: "Lucas is a great team player who has grown in confidence in his position on the wing and now takes players on. Keep believing in yourself" . Well done, Lucas. We're really proud of you, too.

You are all too kind. Staffroom inundated with cards, well-wishes and sweet treats galore. We're very lucky to have you, parents!

Farewell Mrs Smith

The school said farewell to Mrs Smith, one of our school cleaners on Wednesday of last week. Mrs Smith has been with us since April 2024, during which time, alongside her co-worker Mrs Buckley, Mrs Smith has worked tirelessly to raise standards of cleanliness across our school site. We are tremendously grateful for the impact Mrs Smith has had – many parents, staff and children also commenting on just how great school has looked. Thank you for making this happen, Tia. You will be missed. Mrs Buckley has increased her hours in the interim, of which we are incredibly thankful, in order to ensure this same level of high standard for our school is maintained.

Farewell Mrs Watson

In case you missed it, farewell words for Mrs Watson:

Words simply cannot describe the significant contribution you have made to our school community, including a generation of pupils, spanning nearly thirty years; making an indelible impression on our school and its legacy. No task was ever unaccomplishable; no demand unreasonable.

In fact, from the short time I’ve known you during your career (nearly seven years), quite the opposite: an innate selflessness to go above & beyond the remit of your work: volunteering your availability and willingness for the greater good of the Team and our pupils. Attending multiple Residentials; staying behind for Discos; offering to cover people’s lunch or break duties; baking for staff, or the little acts of kindness like making me a flask of coffee every day for lunch duty…the list goes on. Your flexibility has – unquestionably – been revered. This has also extended to the classroom where your ability to embrace a challenge in whatever situation or set of circumstance has arose: general support; covering classes; one-to-one for pupils; running interventions – the list goes on here, too; your adaptability over the years, supporting a range of individuals with a variety of needs has positively impacted countless pupils –academically, socially, morally – and therefore, their life chances.

I know I speak on behalf of current, historical staff members, and community members, when I say that your enduringly warm, empathetic, yet candid & loving approach will be missed by our pupils, and by us staff. You have surpassed my, and many others, expectations of what it means to be a ‘colleague’ because it runs much deeper than that – and whilst I fully understand & support the reason for your retirement – your absence will leave a gap in our hearts that can never be filled. You are Earith Primary School, Loraine. Your strength in character is the embodiment of what we strive to serve in our pupils and in each other.

Forever in your debt.

Class names linked to author surname – that’s the Earith way! It’s where we’ve had the biggest impact. I wonder if one of these authors will follow in Steve Antony’s footsteps, and even pay us/their class a visit? Pupils will study these authors’ books to build their love & appreciation for great books & reading:

Bryon Class: Year R

We welcomed the children who will be joining Bryon Class for their first transition visit. Together, we explored the classroom and outdoor area, getting to know each other and the adults who will be part of our class. We also enjoyed looking at some of Nathan Bryon’s books and learnt that the main character is called Rocket!

On Tuesday, we are looking forward to continuing to get to know each other and discovering more about the children’s interests whether it’s octopi, the colour purple, drawing, or designing balance courses. These activities are all thoughtfully planned to help the children feel confident, excited, and ready for their time in Byron Class.

Yarlett Class: Year 1/2

It has been so special to see Year 1 and Year 2 coming together for the first time as Yarlett Class. After finding out about places and routines in our new classroom (helped by a 'character hunt' around the room), we enjoyed listening to Nibbles the Very Hungry Book Monster. All the children showed excellent focus when designing their new class logos. Many Year 1s chose to do some additional drawings and crafts of Nibbles; I think we might know this cheeky little book monster very well by the end of next year! Year 2s really impressed us with their independence in spelling and maths practice, already striving to build on their finishing points in Year 1 last Friday. Tomorrow, we are looking forward to undertaking the active citizen jobs we signed up for and started practising today.

Blabey Class: Year 3/4

What a wonderful first day as Blabey Class! We loved learning about our new class author and hearing him read one of his picture books. We have had fun designing our class logos (including many excellent Mr Wolves, Mr Sharks and Pig the Pugs), using the laptops to research Aaron Blabey, getting our new active citizens jobs and telling the story of the Camelephantelopelicanary!

Much to look forward to tomorrow as well, including starting our new PSHE curriculum, more time getting used to the computers, and writing a small report about Aaron Blabey.

Morpurgo Class: Year 5/6

What a fantastic start to our transition days! Today, Morpurgo Class jumped straight into creativity by designing some very detailed class logos. We also enjoyed some ‘getting to know you’ activities, helping everyone feel more connected and excited for the year ahead. We’re already looking forward to tomorrow, when we’ll dive into some Year 5 and 6 learning!

End of Year Assembly

Voted by our pupils: Book of the Year 2025. And the winners are…

Antony: Anansi The Spider by Gerald McDermott

Wenzel: Hello Hello by Brendan Wenzel

Larwood: The Legend of Podkin One-Ear by Kieran Larwood

Rauf: Fritz and Kurt by Jeremy Dronfield0

Wonderful choices. They will take their pride of place on the Hall of Fame with winners from the 2023 & 2024 curriculum. Look out for next year’s Book Study display (Hall).

Head’s Awards; Active Badges; Attendance: 98%, 99% & 100%, Winning Class & Whole School; House Winner 2025

As always, a hoard of pupils receiving such prestigious awards. We’re all so very proud of you, children. See Heads & Active names at bottom of newsletter. And as always, look out for your certificates and photos on display next year in the school entrance, outside the office, children!

Annual Class Logo Competition

Congratulations to Seren (Year R: Bryon Class), Cruise (Year 2: Yarlett Class), Sophie (Year 4: Blabey Class) and Emilia (Year 5: Morpurgo Class) – winners of the 2025 class logo competition. These winning logos depicting characters from their class author’s books will be displayed on our classroom doors, on our website, on our displays and featured on our weekly assembly presentations. Enjoy them all year, children. We love them!

Summer Home Learning: Checklist for Parents

By now, I bet you could predict what I’m going to say, but I’ll say it anyway! 6 weeks off, parents. Little & often would be the key to maintain academic momentum:

1. Summer Pack (sheets) went out Friday

2. Read every day: with/to your child. Encourage independence where possible.

3. Read TV: SUBTITLES ON. Great fun! Try it! Super practice with the whole family!

4. Numbots

5. TT Rockstars

6. Spelling Shed

7. Find your own; online educational sites and worksheets!

8. Curriculum + (clubs, camps, days out – we’d love to hear upon your child’s return; it’s all learning)

9. Keep a summer diary: practice key writing skills daily

10.Relax and have fun with your family. Be ready for next year – you worked hard this year, children!

FOES Best Dressed Competition

Courtesy of FOES, for the winners of this year’s Best Dressed Competition, an Earith Primary School Book Club voucher – what better way to kick off the Academic Year than getting stuck into a good book, children. Hold it tight over summer. Well done Eddie, Harper, Jasmina, Cruise, Riley, Ayla, Elsie W, Emily, Archie, Freya, Maya H, Skylar. Year 6: Gordon, Freddie – no pics as still swimming.

Year 6 Pizza and Pool Party

It rained, then it stopped; it rained, then it stopped…so they ate out. Then the wasps came, so Dominos complete inside! As for the pool party, well…the inflatables get bigger & better every year. This year’s offerings included a jet ski, an inflatable volley ball net and a real-life paddle board! The screams, reverberating around the locality!

Happy Holidays & Farewell

Whether you’re a volunteer in class/school, a FOES member, Governor, member of the Central Team within our Trust, or a community member affiliated to our school, thank you. Thank You for supporting us. Whether it’s your time, charitable donations, knowledge, expertise or your general praise, well wishes, words of encouragement or motivation, we appreciate everything you do – and continue to do for us at school.

For our super parents & grandparents, it’s all of the above: to say we value our working relationships would be an understatement. We are considerably lucky to have such supportive partnerships. You make The Gate one of the most privileged experiences a Head Teacher could ever ask for.

For the staff: words genuinely can’t describe the sheer admiration & respect I have for what you do – day in, day out. You have the hardest jobs of all and contribute to the highest of standards. Whatever the demand, you rise to the challenge – year-after-year!

And for the pupils, you’re the reason all these people come together: your boundless energy & enthusiasm makes our school the great place it is – to live, to love & to learn. And for the Year 6s (now Year 7s), that includes you, too. We’re always here for you.

Happy Summer, All.
