Maths: This half term we will be delving
into the topic of Shape. We will measure, compare, order, draw and calculate angles in degrees. We will be exploring reasoning problems about triangles, quadrilaterals and 3-D shapes. We will be describing the position and translation on a grid and finally plotting and carrying out translation with coordinates. We will continue developing confidence in the 4 operations through morning tasks and arithmetic.
History: Once again, the children will delve into the realms of ‘Ancient Greece,’ where they will begin to investigate what impact Ancient Greeks have had on society today, while exploring how significant their legacy is. They will explore Greek architecture, art & theatre, before exploring where the Olympics originated from. The children will research ‘Archimedes’ and how his work/research has influenced life as we know.
English: Over the next half term, the
Year 5 – Summer 1
children will attempt to write their own Greek Myth. They will be using their descriptive writing last half term to help with their setting and mythical creatures involved in their myth. There will be a particular focus in our SPAG lessons on how/when to use a comma when writing fronted adverbials, relative clauses and using commas correctly in a list. We will also focus on including speech to advance the action in a narrative and how to use speech to convey the character. We will continue to read myths from Usborne's Book of Greek Myths.
PE: Throughout their PE sessions this half term, the children will
engage in a dynamic mix of activities. They will alternate between skilful Striking and Fielding sessions and invigorating sessions of Invasion Games led by the WLSP coaches alongside their class teacher.
