Year 4 Spring Half-term 2

Maths: This half term we will learn about…

Fractions

- Mixed numbers (compare and order)

- Improper fractions (convert to mixed numbers

- Adding and subtracting fractions We will continue to revise previous times tables through our TT Rockstars and fluency sessions.

English: Our quality text for this half term is Wonka and continuing to use our theme to inspire our writing for narratives and explanation. In grammar, we will focus on using similes, possessive apostrophes and relative clauses, subordinate clauses and determiners.

Geography: Where does our food come from? We will be looking at the impact on the environment and responsible trading. We will be discovering the journey from the field to the plate

History: This area of the curriculum has been covered in Autumn 1 and 2 and will be covered in Summer 1.

Science: Living Things and Their Habitats

We will continue to study animals in their habitats and look at how environments can change and how this can pose dangers to living things.

PE: All classes will be developing their skills in striking and fielding techniques, with a focus on throwing and catching, and using these skills in games.

Music: Wider opportunities (instrument focus)

Birch will be learning how to play the keyboards with Mrs Hibbert. Pine and Willow will be learning to play the trumpet and clarinet with the music teachers from Sefton.

Year 4 Spring Half-term 2

RE: What does it mean to be Hindu in Britain today?

We will explore what it is to be a Hindu and what this means in todays world for people all over Great Britain.

PSHE: Relationships

We will be identifying the different types of relationships we can have and describe how these can change as we grow. We will also identify how relationships can be healthy or unhealthy and explain how our families can support us.

Computing: Digital literacy, focusing on internet safety and using technology safely.

Art & Design and Design Technology: Design Technology – craft The children will be designing and sewing a pocket for a chocolate linked with our quality text.

Spanish: Name and remember up to 10 ice-cream flavours in Spanish. Spell 10 ice-cream flavours, Use the structure ‘quisiera + an ice-cream flavour’ to say whether we would like a cone or a pot of ice-cream. Learn how to say ‘por favor’ and ‘gracias’ in the correct context.
