English: In English we will be reading ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl. We will be creating an alternative trick that the Twits could play on each other, before writing all about it using all the skills we have been working on this year, for example expanded noun phrases, adverbs and sentence structure. After this, we will then be writing a set of instructions to make a ‘deliciously horrible’ meal that the Twits could eat.

Science: In Science we will be spending the half term consolidating on our learning from across the year. We will revisit minibeast habitats to discover if the creatures we find are different to our findings in Autumn and Spring. The children will further develop their understanding by ‘Working Scientifically’ and continue to apply their scientific understanding to a range of enquiry style questions.

Maths: In Maths this half term, we will start by learning Time. We will be focusing on the language of o’clock, half past, quarter to and past. We will also be telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. After this, we will be focusing on Statistics. The children will learning to draw and interpret tally charts, tables, block diagrams and pictograms. Finally we will focus on Position and Direction. The children will be learning the language of position and be able to describe movement and turns.

Year 2 – Summer 2 Design Technology: In DT this half term we will be exploring a balanced diet. Through their exploration of what makes a balanced diet, children will taste food combinations of different food groups aiming to find the perfect, healthy mix in an exciting, delicious wrap.

PE: Invasion games with WLSP: Pupils will take part in simple games involving individual and co-operative play. They will make quick decisions based on movement of the ball into space and choice of skill execution. Striking/ Fielding with class teacher: Pupils develop the skill of tracking and retrieving a ball, and turning to aim at a target. These skills are useful in many striking and fielding games.
