English: In English, this half term, our quality texts will be 'Giraffe's Can't Dance' and 'Meerkat Mail'. Our initial focus will be on descriptive writing. The children will develop the skills to describe both characters and settings whilst continuing to focus on writing multiple sentences which include a capital letter, finger spaces, and a full stop. We will then continue to apply this learning to letter writing, using the Meerkat Mail story as inspiration.

Science: In Science this half term, we will be looking at ‘Animals including Humans’. We will explore how we classify different animals, using vocabulary such as Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores. We will understand the differences and similarities between these classifications and begin to sort animals in different ways.

Maths: In Maths this half term we will continue to build on our knowledge of place value, reciting numbers forward and backwards within the 0- 100 number range, starting and finishing at differentpoints, and focusing on crossing the tens boundaries. We will focus more deeply on understanding numbers to 20, teaching the vocabulary tens and ones. We will apply our knowledge to add and subtract within this range.

Year 1 – Spring 1: ‘On Safari’

PE: In PE, we will be focusing on ‘Outdoor and Adventurous Activities’ and ‘health and fitness’. In these sessions there will be a focus on team building, problem solving and leadership, as well as developing fitness through a range of activities to develop speed, stamina and coordination.
