Maths: The children will start the Spring term, as they ended the Autumn term – exploring Fractions! The children will practise adding and subtracting fractions greater and less than one, before beginning to multiply and divide different unit and nonunit fractions. After Fractions, the children will practise multiplying and dividing 3 & 4 digit numbers, by a 2-digit number (2345 x 56) using the strategies they are familiar with. Spanish: With Señor Asensi, the children will be learning about 'El tiempo' (the weather). They will recognise and recall weather expressions. In addition, the children will learn how to ask what the weather is today and give a reply in Spanish. They will learn about the weather in Spain, including using a weather map with symbols.

Year 5 – Spring 1 ‘A Greek Odyssey’

English: During this half term, the children will be reading a range of Ancient Greek myths and legends. They will be exploring the features of persuasive texts and writing their own persuasive text linked to the Ancient Greeks. In addition, the children will be producing their own descriptive writing in the form of character and setting descriptions linked to Ancient Greece. The children will be learning how to use causal conjunctions and colons to link related clauses.

History: For our first History topic of Year 5, the children will be learning all about Ancient Greece! During Spring 1, the children will be exploring the civilisation of the Ancient Greeks. They will compare similarities and differences between Athens and Sparta, before learning about the famous wars and battles of the time. Tied in with our reading, the children will learn all about the Greek Gods!
