English: During this half term we will be using Julia Donaldson’s The Snail and the Whale as our quality text. The Snail and the Whale is a picture book rich in rhyming language and is written from the perspective of the adventurous snail. We will be using the text alongside other whale related books to support our writing, where we will be focusing on non-chronological reports and letter writing. Grammar, spelling and punctuation work will also support the children's writing.
Science: Sound and Electricity : This series of lessons focuses on giving children an understanding of electricity, and how sound works. They will do a range of activities for effective and engaging learning through a variety of practical, hands on investigations.
Year 2 Half-term: Spring 1 Making Waves
Whole class reading: In our reading lessons, we will be continuing to read a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts. We will be focusing on developing our retrieval and inference skills and building our knowledge of vocabulary.
Maths: In Maths this half term, we will begin looking at money including; identifying coins, making different amounts and giving and receiving amounts in pounds and pence. Following on from this we will be moving on to multiplication and division focussing more on the 2,5 and 10 times tables. We will then be looking at mental and written strategies such as multiplying and dividing with no exchange and with exchange. We will be finishing off with looking at fractions including halves, quarters and thirds. PE: Working each week with WLSP, the children will continue to take part in striking or gymnastics lessons.
