Personal, Social & Emotional De v elopment:
The childr en will be working on all the social and emotional skill s r equir ed for starting school: sitting still, li stening, sharing, turn taking, making friend s. Thi s will be linked to the a s sembly theme; Re spect.
Physical De v elopment:
A lot of time will be de voted to de v eloping the childr en’s gros s and e specially fine motor skill s. Thi s mean s helping the childr en to de v elop accurate control of their hand s and fingers to hold and u se a pencil accurately. E.g. through playdough, dra wing club, PE le s son s and funky fingers acti vitie s.
Literacy: The childr en will begin their
phonics journey. We u se the RWI programme and will start learning RWI set 1 sound s. We will begin to segment the sound s in simple word s u sing Fr ed talk, and start to blend sound s together to say a word. Fr ed i s a frog who help s u s learn to blend. They will start to bring library book s home to shar e with adult s for the joy of r eading.
Communication & Language:
Childr en will be introduced to their cla s smate s and encouraged to speak in small and larger group s to build their confidence whil st settling into school, al ways being encouraged to con sider the need s of the li stener. We will u se opportunitie s like show and tell, and circle time to encourage childr en to get to know each other.
Math s:

a variety of differ ent role play e xperience s in the cla s sroom to spark the childr en’s imaginati v e play and encourage talk. We will be e xploring colour mi xing through painting and talking about te xtur e.
Building on pr e viou s e xperience s of number from home and nursery en vironment s. We will introduce Math s with a variety of number and counting songs a s w ell a s opportunitie s within the cla s sroom to con solidate learning. We will then continue by e xploring the composition of numbers within 5, whil st de v eloping their subiti sing and counting skill s.
Understanding the World: We
will e xplor e the world around u s and con sider the on set of Autumn. Autumn walk s around our outdoor en vironment s will encourage the u se of appropriate vocabulary. Through outdoor play the childr en will e xperience the w eather and learn how to choose the right clothing, independently.
