Personal, Social & Emotional Development: continue to encourage independence, resilience and perseverance. Teach children how to manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs including teeth brushing ( role play Dentist ).
Maths ( linked to White Rose ): Building numbers to 20 using a range of resources, 10 frames, Numicon, number tracks. Provide opportunities in continuous provision to consolidate key skills including subitising, compare and order, count, sort and match.
Physical Development: Making the most of good weather to develop gross motor skills through moving and playing outdoors. Continuing to provide opportunities to develop fine motor skills with a focus on letter and number formation. West Lancashire Coaches take PE once a week. Literacy: We will enjoy sharing many books including traditional tales. Differentiated groups for phonics with children reading and writing sounds/words/sentences, using the Read Write Inc scheme. Lots of opportunities to practise writing with increasing independence.
Reception Summer 1: ‘Once Upon a Time…’ Communication & Language: Opportunities for children to talk with adults and friends, one to one and in small groups. Encouraging children to talk in front of larger audiences through ‘Helicopter Stories’ where they act out story roles. Setting high expectations for listening skills.
Understanding the world: We will continue looking at life cycles and developing their understanding of seasonal changes. Children will be planting and caring for plants in our outside environment. Expressive Arts: Small world and role play areas are available at all times. Through creative exploration we will use an increased range of tools, such as smaller paintbrushes to develop fine motor skills further. Through helicopter stories, the children will begin to invent their own narratives. RE: Use opportunities, such as charity days, to discuss similarities and differences between countries and/or cultures.
