As we move into the festive season, there is a sense of excitement building around school. This Sunday, our Melody Makers will be opening the Churchtown Village Christmas Fair with their performance at 12pm outside the Checkers shop. We would love for families to come along and support the children if you are heading towards the fair this weekend, and we are hoping the weather improves to make the occasion even more special.
Back in school, the celebrations begin on Monday 1st December. Three stunning Christmas trees arrived yesterday and have now been fully decorated, transforming the school ready for three joyful weeks of festive activities. December is always a busy and magical month at Churchtown, and this year is no different.
Our festivities start next week with the Year 2 class assemblies. Each class will have their turn to perform to parents and guardians across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The following week brings even more excitement, with the Buttercup performance taking place in school, while Reception and Year 5 will perform at St Cuthbert’s Church.
Thursday 11th December is our Christmas Dinner Day, when children are invited to wear a Christmas jumper or festive top alongside their own clothes. We kindly ask for a £1 contribution towards the PTA Mufti, which can be paid through the Arbor app or by bringing £1 into school on the day. The full Christmas dinner menu is available in this week’s newsletter for families to look through.
In our last week before we break up, our school party days will take place. On Monday 15th December, younger children from Snowdrops up to Year 2 will enjoy their party day, while on Tuesday 16th December it will be the turn of our Key Stage 2 children from Year 3 to Year 6. Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th December also brings a very special moment for many of our pupils, as Santa Claus will be visiting school. Children from Snowdrops to Year 4 will have the chance to enjoy a festive story with Santa and receive a gift in our beautifully decorated Lodge by the PTA, and we ask that bookings and payments are made through the Arbor app. On Tuesday 16th December, our older children in Year 5 and Year 6 are invited to stay after school for our Christmas Movie. Again, bookings for this event can be made through Arbor, and more details are included further down in the newsletter. Finally, we will bring our busy term to a close on Friday 19th December. School will finish at 1:30pm, but before we break up, all children will visit St Cuthbert’s Church in the morning for our Christmas assemblies, marking a wonderful end to a joyful and eventful few weeks. Thank you for your continued support during this special time of year.
Mrs Payne

A message from Mr Cocks (Year 2 teacher and Forest School leader): For those families who choose to have a real Christmas tree, we would like your help for our Forest Schools firewood. We DON’T require the actual tree but the wooden base/stump that the tree stands on, would be really useful. Once you’re finished with your tree after Christmas, please can you drop the wooden base/ stump of by the bike sheds at the front of school
Thankyou for your support and wishing you all a wonderful festive season.
