YEAR 10 NEXT STEPS REPORT •
During the Spring Progress Tests students have completed assessments that mirror their final exams. The grades awarded by their teacher is an indication of how they would do in a final exam – on the content that has been taught only. When it comes to the final exams obviously there will be a lot more subject content tested.
•
In the last two weeks, following the Progress Test, students have had a ‘feedback lesson’ with their class teacher. This is where teachers have gone over the test paper, provided feedback on what students have done well, helped identify any misconceptions and signposted content they have not yet learnt well enough.
•
After the feedback lessons teachers have moved on to teach the next part of the curriculum so that it is covered ready for retesting both in class and in their Year 10 exams. Students now need to use their Home Study time to continue going over topics and regularly practice questions until they are secure with this learning ready for the Year 10 formal exams in the summer term – starting on 19th June. These exams will tests both this content as well as the new content currently being taught.
•
To help students continue to make progress and ensure that the content taught to date is as secure as possible we have put together a Next Steps Report sheet for each subject area. It identifies – What individual students need to know at each key grade – What they need to focus upon – Where they can access the resources to support their continued learning.
•
The Next Steps sheet is also intended for Parents to help focus expectations, conversations, and direction so that time spent learning at home is purposeful
•
We also recommend a close inspection of the Effort grid which outlines key study behaviours that we teach our students to adopt in order to be successful scholars.
•
An electronic report will be sent home to parents. This will include the information about ‘next steps’. Students can also access a copy of the next steps and the links to the required resources via their MSTeams account.
