Book Worms Reading Newsletter – Autumn 2 ‘If a child can’t read, they can’t get on in life.’
Welcome to the second (and very festive) edition of our Chapelford Reading Newsletter. What a busy half term it has been! Many books have been shared and enjoyed since we returned from the October break and we are so happy to see our children sharing a love of reading. In this edition, we have some book recommendations for the whole family to enjoy over the Christmas break. In addition to this, we have an exciting new subscription aimed to support reading at home. We are also excited to share with you some amazing resources we have found to support you in finding a book your children will enjoy based on their interests.
Make sure you look at our Christmas Reading Challenge to win some house points for your House Team and to be in for a chance of winning a prize! The Reading Raffle continues to be a huge success in school. We would like to do a shout out to the top 3 classes with the highest percentages this half term. Class 4: 85%
Class 9: 85%
Class 18: 100%
A huge well done to these classes and an extra WELL DONE to Class 18 who have achieved 100% yet again. Who is going to match this in Spring? Remember that to do this you need to read at home 5 times each week and get your reading record signed by an adult.
We are thrilled to present our Chapelford Reading Ambassadors. To apply for this role, each of these children submitted a book review and explained why they would make a good ambassador. Here are the books that they reviewed and would recommend you read: Daniel (Year 3) recommends Zombie Wasps – “this book made me want to read it many times!” Jess (Year 5) recommends Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – “this is the last of the series… and the most exciting!” “If you want a story to make you laugh, this is the book for you!” – Betsy (Year 5) recommends Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Long Haul. If you’re looking for a story about friendship, Arthur (Year 2) recommends you read ‘The Dinosaur who Lost his roar’. A classic favourite in Chapelford, linked to a Year 1 author study, Farrah (Year 2) recommends the Gruffalo. For a book full of mystery and secrets, Keira (Year 6) recommends Theatre Shoes. For a heart-warming family read, Emily (Year 3) recommends Little Tiger Rescue.
