Book Worms Reading Newsletter Welcome to the very first reading newsletter of this school year. At Chapelford, we believe being able to read is one of the most important life skills you will ever learn. We want to celebrate your reading achievements, give you some reading top-tips, share book recommendations and keep you informed about reading at our school. What an amazing start to the year it has been! Your teachers have been blown away by the enthusiasm for reading right across school. Over the summer holidays, it was so exciting to see a huge delivery of books arrive – these include 100 new reading books for every class reading area, new guided reading sets across the whole school and thousands of new take home reading books for every reading area! How exciting is it to open a book for the very first time and smell the new pages? Up and down the school, we have books to cover so many different genres and styles – animals, spies, adventure, space, poetry, sport, diaries, books about history or the world – you name it, we’ve got it! This half term, we also have lots of top tips to share, a few little puzzles, a special edition of ‘must read’ spooky books to enjoy as the dark nights creep in and a message about reading from someone special… We would like to say a huge WELL DONE to Class 18 and congratulate them on achieving 100% in our school Reading Raffle two weeks in a row this half term. Can any class match this tremendous achievement next half term? Could there be a class to beat Class 18 with 100% for more than 3 weeks in a row?! Remember that to do this you need to read at home 5 times each week and get your reading record signed by an adult.

Competition Time! Do you have a passion for reading? Is curling up with a good book your favourite thing to do? Do you want to help others find books to lose themselves in too? Then you are the person the English team in school are looking for! They are on the hunt for some reading enthusiasts to become Chapelford reading ambassadors. You would wear a special badge and be invited to write a book review each half term to appear in our reading newsletter so that you can share your passion with others and inspire them. You will also be given some tasks to support the English team and promote reading in school. Want to apply? It’s simple. Over the holidays, just choose one of your favourite books to write a short book review about and tell us why you would make a good reading ambassador. You can draw a picture or write about your favourite parts and give other children a sneaky peak about what might happen – don’t give away too much though! Your teacher will have a template for you to use if you want a little head start. Give your completed reviews to your teacher by Friday the 4th November to be considered for the role.
