Newsletter – 20th June 2022 Our News The children have been great at coming back to school and their daily routines after the half-term holiday. The Ducklings have begun preparing for their transition to Year 1 by visiting the playground which they will play on at playtimes and exploring where each of the Year 1/2 classrooms are. The Little Chicks have had their first stay and play session with the Ducklings teachers and staff and will be joining the Reception classes over the coming weeks for things like story time and singing. The children were excited to see how the chrysalids had changed into beautiful butterflies on their return to school! They loved observing them for a few days before it was time to release them into our garden. They didn’t want to fly away at first and the children are hoping to spot them in our garden again over the next few weeks. We were also very lucky to have a visit from Kash, a lady, who came from the Building Bridges organisation to talk to us about her Sikh faith and life style. The children listened to her talk with interest and loved her dancing that she showed them! Thank you for all of the donations of chocolate and sweets for our summer fair, in exchange for the recent nonuniform day. It is not too late to send any outstanding donations should you so wish. On Wednesday, we welcomed the arrival of the Spar Lancashire Commonwealth Games Baton and learned about what the Commonwealth is and the countries that are part of it. Hannah in Brown Ducklings is arranging a sponsored walk in order to raise money for the Hedgehog Rescue in Blackpool. She is very passionate for these creatures that can often be found in the garden. STARS OF THE WEEK Lenny and Elias from Yellow Ducklings Archie and Mason from Brown Ducklings Our Learning We have completed our ‘What’s in the garden?’ topic by finding out about all of the different minibeasts that might live there! We had great fun researching facts about them all and reading non-fiction books to help build on our existing knowledge. It was great fun hunting for minibeasts in our garden and observing and naming their different parts up close. We also talked about the place where a minibeast lives is known as its habitat. That helped us to think about which creatures we might find in different places in the garden. We have loved learning some new songs about minibeasts. Ask them to sing them for you at home!
