Candidates FAQs 1. How do I know what exams I have been entered for? A copy of your entries will be uploaded to Synergy. You will also be able to check your individual timetable here as well once this is complete. 2. What should I do if I think I have been entered for the wrong examination or tier? Initially you should speak to your subject teacher if you think there has been a mistake, they will contact the exams office if a correction needs to be made. 3. I have 2 exams at the same time – what should I do? The exams office will sort out any timetable clashes but these may take a little while to show on your timetable. The updated timetable will be accessible through Synergy once completed. 4. What time to I need to be there for my exam? Your timetable clearly shows the time and place of your exam, make sure you turn up with time to spare as all examinations will start promptly. 5. What if I am ill on the day of my exam and can’t make it? You must ring the school as soon as you know you cannot attend, you will need to leave a message with the school office as the exams staff will be busy. If you have any medical evidence please take a photo or scan and then email exams@brgs.org.uk with as much information as you can provide. This will then be submitted to the relevant exam board. Any further decisions are taken by the exam boards and not the school. 6. What if I am late for my exam? Provided you are not more than 1 hour late, it may still be possible for you to sit the examination. You should get to school as quickly as possible and report to reception. A member of staff will escort you to the exam room. You must not enter an examination room without permission after an examination has begun. You should also be aware that if you start the exam more than 1 hour after the published starting time, the school must inform the exam board and it is possible that the board may decide not to accept your work. Please ensure that you allow enough time to get to school so that if you are delayed (e.g. through transport problems) you will still arrive on time. If you think you are going to be more than 1 hour late please call the exams office immediately for advice and ensure that you speak to the Exams Officer or Head of Exams 7. If I miss the exam can I take it on another day? NO. Timetables are set by the exam boards and you must take your exam on the given day and at the given time. 8. What do I need to bring for my exam? It is your responsibility to make sure you have all the equipment needed for your exam. You must complete papers in BLACK ink and not use gel pens or erasable pens as these can cause problems with the scanning of papers. In addition you may need a pencil, eraser, ruler, calculator etc. It’s best to check on your practice papers to see what has been needed in the past. If you want to bring a pencil case it must be clear or you may find it easier to use a clear plastic bag.
