Welcome to Year 1! We hope you all had a lovely summer and we look forward to working with you and your child to ensure we have a happy and successful year. .

Adults in class  Mrs Maley will teach the class Monday and Tuesday; Miss Casey will teach the class Thursday and Friday, and both teachers will be in class on Wednesday.  In class we are very fortunate to have support from Mrs Nolan each day.

P.E  Our P.E sessions will be on Mondays and Thursdays. One session each week will be taught by a specialist coach.  Please ensure children have their P.E kit in for all P.E sessions and warm clothes for colder days.  Please provide a note / speak to school if your child is unable to do P.E, otherwise children will be expected to join in.  Please cover earrings on the morning of P.E days with plasters if your child is unable to remove earrings for lessons.

School Website  Our class webpage will be regularly updated throughout each half term with information and photographs, so you can see all the exciting things your child has been learning.  Our Curriculum map for the year and our learning for each half term can also be found on our class page.

Reading Children will have daily reading to an adult during our Read Write Inc. sessions. Home reading books can be accessed online from the Oxford Owl website (see information handed out for login details.) Once your child can confidently read the book they have been practising in class, they will bring a slip home to inform you which book they should be reading at home. It is important for your child’s comprehension skills that they read books more than once. Children will also bring home a ‘book to share’ each week, which they will choose from our class library. This book is not for the children to read, but to enjoy listening to and sharing with an adult. Please return this book to school each Monday so that it can be swapped with a different book. Supporting at home

 Additional tasks may include handwriting; learning number bonds to 10 and 20; reading and spelling the words from the statutory spelling lists (see handout); counting forwards and backwards to 100 and from different starting points; 1 less and 1 more than given numbers; discussing key vocabulary for the different units of work (this can be found on the ‘What we are learning’ section of our class page. If you have any concerns about your child’s time at school, please make an appointment to discuss this as soon as possible. Many thanks for your support, Mrs Maley and Miss Casey
